Angel from Montgomery -live
Posted by Marisa on February 9, 2023 at 7:42 amFor those following, this is from my gig last week. First time playing it with my awesome bass player. It will be tighter next month. I played for a solid 90 mins…😅

Sounds really good Marisa. I have watched some of your other videos and think it’s really cool that you perform live. That takes a lot of courage and a passion to grow in your abilities. Not sure how receptive you are to suggestions…I looked up the song and it appears to be in 4/4 with a pretty slow bpm. The song felt a little fast and a little bit off beat at times. Maybe it’s just the video though. I can’t hear the bassist at all. But I would say practice your timing and being completely in sync with the bassist. Let him lead you through the song and sync your strumming pattern to the root notes he is playing. The acoustic should have a strong percussive element since there is no drummer. I offer this only because I am going through the same thing with my own playing. I play on the worship team at my church and am learning a lot about time signatures, not playing too fast, and working out the role the acoustic has when playing live. Take care.

Your feedback is much appreciated. @Stevo7 We played this cold, live together. Next time we will be more in synch. Going from playing solo and adding another certainly creates the need to get timing right. I am going to focus more of my attentions on timing. Thank you for listening and taking the time to comment. ✌🏽😃👍🏽

You’re welcome @Marisa! I’m finding with my own playing that I appreciate any feedback people are willing to offer. Support and praise feels good but constructive criticism helps you to grow and become a better player. I’ll look forward to hearing more from your sets. God bless you.

90 Minutes!!! WOW!
Well done on that one. Way to go Marisa!

I thought your rendition was great @Marisa 👏👏👏 you played it well, timing and all. Even though the song is in 4/4 time, it’s not in straight 4/4. The rhythm is syncopated, and the syncopation within the verse is different from the chorus (per BR’s edition)😱 Watching your vid, I can see (and hear) that you’re doing a consistent syncopated beat of your own, which is perfectly fine, because it’s your version of the song IMHO.👍🎸

Thanks for that @Bill_Brown I cannot believe I am doing this with just over 2 years of playing…I am
Learning so much and having a blast! ✌🏼☺️
