AttyTJ- 4th TACiversary- Progress, not Perfection
In case no one else noticed, learning to competently play Guitar (Dobro, Mandolin, Base, or anything else where music is made by strings vibrating wood) is HARD. But I am 4 years into what I know is a lifetime so, here we go:
1. Where were you with Guitar when you Joined?
I was about 20 years past the last time I tried to learn how to play.
2. What are the three things you can do now, that you could not do before TAC?
a. Play in public, and now I play at and host VOM’s, attend some Open Mics, and love live JAMS of all types.
b. Understand the need for, use of, and way to play Barre Chords.
c. I know people. And I have learned through TAC and the Pandemic (not related but happened together) that Virtual friends are way different than imaginary ones. I have even met some in person, so even better. Those friends are only here because of TAC
3. Complete this statement: “It would be amazing if this time next year I can ________________.”
Last year I said Post at least 2 songs a month requested/suggested by others (Check); Learn to finger pick some of the songs I regularly play (Nope, and I am going to defer that one); and identify the key and chords of a song by ear (not really, and now less important).
This Year: a. Have no less than 10 songs committed to memory (music and lyrics) and post them somewhere, somehow.
b. Write a song I am really happy with. I have not succeeded in the music I have written in getting the right words and sounds to combine. I love the poetry I have set to music, but I want to love the song that the poetry and music create together.
Not a question Tony asked, but, since starting TAC I and my imaginary friends will tell you I have progressed greatly. I am able to sing and play just about anything where I see the chord sheet and have heard the song. And I don’t fear offering what I can do to others, so a huge win for my mind. I spent way to long in my life not doing this, the last 4 years are clear reinforcement I will not do that again. I am having too much fun.
