  • Different tempo speeds

Posted by jason-ashley on October 6, 2023 at 6:01 am

As I go through the 30-day challenge, I notice Tony is also talking about different tempo speeds, but I am only finding one play-a-long video to watch and play-a-long with. How do we access the other videos for the additional speed rates, or do I need to get out a metronome to play them at? Is there a different solution that I should be doing to get these different speeds that I have missed?

Hello @jason-ashley and welcome to TAC. When looking at a lesson video, you should see some icons in the lower right hand side of the screen (you might have to “mouse” over the area to see them) within the video frame. What icons you can see will vary, depending on what browser your using (Chrome, Safari, etc.) and what type of computer (PC, MAC, iPAD, etc.) you have. For me, I have to click on the “Full Screen” icon to see all the remaining icons – I know that sounds crazy, but I’m using a MAC and that’s what I have to do to get access to all the icons. From that point, there’s a “Speed” icon and it’s set at 1X. Put your mouse over that icon and all the speed options will pop up. Choose the one that you feel is appropriate for the lesson – you can change it whenever you want, up or down from 1X.

Yes, there used to be 3 different videos for each lesson, slow, medium and fast speed. But a few years ago, TAC eliminated that system and introduced the speed icon as one of many remedies to conserve sever space.

Hope this helps answer your question. Best of luck in your guitar journey 🎸

Thanks! I was wondering the same thing. I’m on week 2 of the 30-day challenge.

On day 2 of my 30 day journey, and at this point, speeding up is definitely not my problem, LOL. Once I get better, having it go to 3x would be nice. But the way I’ve solved this at other sites that don’t use Soundslice, etc. is just to dial in the metronome. For the 3 Blues lessons, I’m doing to at 60 and the last at 50. My hope is to get one or more to 120, but not sure that will happen in a week. What I don’t want to do is get bogged down in a single lesson. I can see that TAC requires a different mindset in terms of when it’s time to move on.

Having a metronome dial-in in or downloaded is a great idea. I am planning on using the metronome down the road when I come back and review these lessons. I think a good bench mark to complete this is to play with the video at X2 speed (X3 is not available).
