  • Is Tony using a foot stool?

Posted by Annie-Plays-Guitar on October 12, 2023 at 10:46 am

I sometimes have difficulty with the hight of my guitar in my lap. I see Tony’s right knee is slightly higher than his left knee but his legs are not crossed. Does anyone know if he uses a foot stool? I’m searching for a better position. Thank you

@annie – I can’t say that I remember seeing him use one, but if his right leg is raised (left for left handers), then more than likely he is using one. There are many on Amazon and they don’t cost that much. I personally have a bad habit of holding my foot on my tip toes. My toes and ankles get stiff though, so the footrest makes more sense.

I heard him mention this once , he puts 1 foot on top of the other, I remember cause I do that also but I usually have the bottom foot sideways and it kinda gets sore from being squished.

Might be wrong but I remember that he mentioned in an AT episode that he bought a foot stool as he has this bad habit of putting a foot on the other

This is obviously a late reply! 🙂 I’ve been a beginner at the classical guitar for almost 45 years on and off now!! 🙂 🙂 I used a stool forever. My back started hurting on the side with my foot raised. I switched about 5 years ago to a Dynarette guitar pillow. You place the pillow on your thigh, and now your feet are flat on the floor. Relieved all the pain! Although the pillow is designed for the left leg (classical guitar style) I have moved it over to my right to play TAC/folk /steel stings…works fine. The pillow raises the guitar about 4-5 inches….I too would get sore feet from one foot on another, wrapping feet on chair rungs, etc.

I looked up the Dynarette pillow…apparently they have fallen under the ‘supply chain problem’. There is a similar pillow from Oasishumidifiers.com…under Acessories…under Guitar supports. I also switched to a smaller stool, so my legs form a 90 degree angle with my floor…helps my back!

You may also have a small pillow at home that is just right…save some $$.

Sorry if this was so long winded!! Good luck!

I too struggle with resting my guitar on my lap. I finally caved and bought an adjustable foot stool which arrived today. Problem solved. Now I can focus on my playing instead of my knee height.
