  • Search local TAC members for playing?

Posted by kurt99 on November 24, 2023 at 7:42 pm

Just curious if there’s a way to connect with other TAC members near me? I see locations posted when people join TAC but that’s it. Thanks!

I’ve wondered about this as well. I don’t have anyone to play with, and that is one area I really want to work on.

Looks like the drop down menu next to our profile picture allows us to search Members by city & state. In rural Vermont, city isn’t very helpful. Searching by entire state works but the profiles that pop up don’t have their location so you have to open each profile to see where they are. Loads take a little while on TAC, so it’s not the quickest method. Plus, I live near the NH border so would have to do that as well. Maybe Tony’s team can get this streamlined sometime 🙂

Once you zero in on your State, you can also sort by newest members or recently active. I find the “Recently Active” to be very telling – you can see more or less who shows up regularly and who joined, got excited for a few weeks and then faded. No sense reaching out to someone who is not serious. But like @kurt99 said, you have to click on the person’s profile to get a better idea of what part of the state they are from. Would be nice if you could sort within a range of miles or something similar.

I didn’t know this even existed. I found 26 in my city, although only 5 have been active in the past 2 months. Need to start exploring surrounding cities.

Thanks for jumping in, Gents. I will def dig deeper to find active TAC members nearby. Like the sort feature, too. Thanks for that heads up ChuckS.

Hey all – I went to meetup.com and searched for guitar jams and found a few in my area. I tried a couple and some were not great – but I found one that I really enjoy that meets up once a month. Maybe you can find (or start) something your area!

Thanks for the heads up! Hadn’t heard of this before so nice to know it’s there. I went to my first jam last week and really enjoyed it, a monthly gathering I plan to join when I’m in town. Time to engage with others 🙂

@kurt99 Late to the party as usual. Agree with the other comments. When searching members, it is always better to search on the broadest term. Not only searching using the state within the state, but I’ve often found that searching by typing the state in Other gives me better results, because it is searching within the verbiage in the profile then. It would be nice if the search showed the location of the person in the results. That would save a lot of time and headaches.

I too have found jams through meetup.com.

There are open mics all over, and they’re great ways of meeting other guitarists. If not comfortable playing, you can still go and listen and talk to other players.
