Howdy from Chicago. I did one year of TAC a long time ago and took classes at OTSoFM but decided to take a session off. One thing led to another and my guitar has been collecting dust for 2 years. I thought I’d give it a other try when I saw the TAC email.
Interesting technique
Feels awkward going to new chord on the 4 and is taking some work. I have a tendency to go to a 3/4 time strumming pattern.
I’m picking this up from Sydney Australia. I’ve. Even playing for over 50 years but can always improve.
Been playing on and off for a few years looking to improve whatever wayvI can
Markofcourse from St Pete, Fl. Day 1 of first ever TAC.
Great song to learn. You say it is a great campfire song that everyone knows but I am amazed at how many people I asked over the weekend who have never heard of it. Guess I’m hanging out with the wrong people. For Sue below, try ultimate guitar, they have the chords and lyrics to everything.
Lake of the Ozarks Missouri here. Have played in the past, but not well. Looking to pick it back up and improve.
Hello from SW Florida. I’ve been attempting to learn to play Guitar since I was 13 yrs old. I’ll be 70 in April. It seems I have a hard time staying dedicated to learning and most of all practicing. I’m hoping this will keep me on track to becoming a better player.
I can’t find the words to this song and am not familiar with it
I have been trying to get my pinky stronger. This G is good for that
Aloha from Kaneohe, Hawaii. 1st challenge lesson. Will add the quick change G to C to my toolbag.
Thank You
Hi Tony
Thanks so much for sharing your expertise to help us struggling guitarists. I have been playing for some time but not progressing much. I am here from just outside Tulsa OK in Bixby. Again thank you!
First Session of this TAC challenge. Great start. I am In Ashburn, VA.
Thanks Tony, 1st timer from Durango, Colorado. Working on the new G and C fingerings!
Great Tony!
Enjoyed playing these chords
Hello Tony, Houston, Tx here, first time in the acoustic challenge. So far it sounds great. Thanks for the challenge.
First session from Santa Barbara California
Like it
Terre Haute, Indiana….I want to play at a higher level and welcome all help I can get.
Hello TAC. Tuning in from Saskatchewan, Canada. Thanks for this lesson!
Lesson #1, from Geneva, Switzerland!
Hey T, tuning in from Myrtle Beach for my 1st session. Love this song!
Bill here in Ojai, CA
Trying the challenge
Lifetime beginner used to following lead by ear on recordings only
Tuning in from Kelowna, BC, Canada. Just working out the basics
Guitar in hand and hailing from Bentonville, AR.
Coming to you from Wasilla, AK. Several years ago I took a year or two of TAC lessons beginning with some basics, chords basics, etc. I still receive emails, saw the challenge and thought I’d give it a go to discover the ease or difficulty in the lessons. Looking forward to the week.
Tuning in from Tampa. The cord progression from C to C/G instead of a stamdard C is a bit awkward, but getting it down.
More stretching of the fingers required!
Bonjour from Montréal, Québec, Canada.
Session #1.
I need an instruction on how to place my fingers I’m lost
I’m in Athens, GA. I’ve watched some of your other videos so I guess this isn’t my first time. I’m 69 and just having fun in my music room.
Hi I’m Ken from Florida. Self taught first timer hoping to get better
Session 1
Napa Valley, California
I’m off work this week and decided to give this a try since I’ve been wanting to learn how to play my acoustic guitar for a while. I’m checking in from Chester, NY and have been singing in local bands for the last 18 years. I’d like to add something more and get back to performing.
This is my first time at this. From Nova Scotia, Canada.
Hey Tony,
Session one, beginner from Arizona. My achilles heel has been chord changes. I find them difficult for my old bones. I need lots of practice (and some stretching) to go from G-C/G-D smoothly and quickly in time.
Hello I’m Matt from Ontario Canada.
I am trying this challenge for the first time.
I’m certainly not a beginner so I’m not going to say this is very difficult.
I am a noodler though so I need something to keep me focused and disciplined.
Oh, yeah, I’m in Northern New Hampshire.
Hi Tony. Session 1. I have some Tabs experience but this is the first real lesson. Nice job. I have broken my right wrist 2ce, so it is hard to turn over my wrist without some pain. I find that if i go from a “normal” G to a “normal” C that is easier for me. I’ll hang in there and find a way to keep up and improve. Thanks for this chance.
Strumming from Cotuit, MA on Cape Cod. First time back in about a year but have completed almost a years worth of lessons from TAC over the years. Happy to be back!
I cannot seem to maintain the G cord , it looks easy, but my ring and pinky want to go where my middle finger goes
This seems too advanced for me
Maybe James (if you’re a never ever before beginner). But if you know anything at all about G and C chords, then you can be an “advanced” player. But it does take prolonged concentration in stages: Stage 1 – Begin with the G that Tony taught, then move only your middle finger from string 5 to string 4, back and forth – a lot. Then (Stage 2) only lift your index finger from string 2 and back onto string 2 again – a lot. Stage 3, at the same time you move your middle finger from string 5 to 4, also drop your index onto string 2 – voila, a (modified) C chord. Finally Stage 4 – (the opposite of Stage 3) – at the sme time you move your middle finger from string 4 back to 5, also lift your index from string 2. You’ve done it congrats! You’re now officially “advanced”. Keep on playin’ – in tiny stages.
Hello, Tony and everyone else on the site here. My first session time with Tony’s Acoustic Challenge. I’m retired and now live in Arlington, TX. I haven’t been very disciplined in my playing routine and I am trying this to see if I like it and if it will help establish better learning habits.
MUTING D,G,B
Good Morning Tony,
Thanks for the lesson, good pace and description. I’m the quintessential year-over-year beginner. I stop for a while then start up again. This seems to be a good way to break that bad habit. I’m 69 and live in upstate NY.
Good morning Tony. Thank you for these lessons. I’m sure 74 years old and am trying to learn to play and not having much success. I’m sure your lessons will help. Elkin, NC
Hi, Tony. Joining for the first time in Mebane, NC. Looking g forward to the adventure!
From Cloquet Minnesota. Session number One and looking forward to being able to play with my boys! Thanks!!
Hi Tony! I’m watching from outside Washington DC. I’’m trying The Acoustic Challenge for the first time.
Limestone from Houston, Texas. This is session number one after a few years of Fender Play lessons.
How are you muting the A string with this C chord modification? Thanks.
Use the finger on the 6th string. Let it lightly rest on the a string which will mute it
Thanks!
In stead of positioning your ring finger on its tip, flatten it out slightly so it gently touches the A string (as well as the E string of course).
