1st Guitars For Vets Class !
Posted by TMutter on November 30, 2023 at 1:51 amI was inspired on Veterans Day in the US and the work that Tony and the TAC community have supported over the years. I found a GFV chapter in my area and last Monday co-lead my first class of 5 veterans at the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting Washington. What a great program. It is a real honor to have the opportunity to help provide the gift of music to these wonderful people. If you have any experience with GFV or tips I would appreciate it.

Great use of your skills. I am currently participating in a program called Academy 4 which is introducing 4th graders in lower performing elementary schools to musical instruments with the Ukulele. I have two classes on 8 students and although it can be like herding cats, they are starting to get the hang of it. Thanks for being a good TAC ambassador.

Thats awesome. Especially with so many schools reducing or eliminating music programs. I did a similar thing when my kids were in elementary school but I focused on hand drumming (I didnt play the guitar at that point) using instruments I had collected around the world. So it was music, a little geography, foreign language (forte, pianissimo…. etc). Have fun – I bet the kids are loving it!

This is also such a nice way to give back. We moved around a bit when I was young and our schools were so small they didn’t have many band opportunities to learn.

Well, seems my biggest issue here in San Antonio is getting anyone to respond to my contact requests!

I am working through the Washington Solderers Home which is run by the VA. Fortunately they seem to be pretty organized and a back log of demand.
