OMG! What a similarity! And an inspiration! My late parents bought me a guitar for my 21st birthday (41 years ago!). I have been a dabbler, off and on ever since. More than that, my wife and I are bikers.
Now, entering retirement, I am determined to make use of that wonderful gift.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
-
Wow. So many of us seem to be coming from the same direction. Hope you are getting on well with the guitar now and also your biking. We are jyst easing out of lockdown in the UK so can ride again. Music and bikes just seem to go hand in hand.

That!
Was a really cool video! Thanks for sharing, and all the best to you on your guitar journey!
-
Thanks. Finally feel like I have a chance to join kindred spirits and crack this guitar roadblock once and for all.

-
Wonderful creative video! Thanks so much for sharing your inspiring journey.
‘Heartfelt condolences for your friend’s passing, you’ve created a beautiful tribute to him.
Take care, Cherie
-
Thankyou @Cherie for those kind words. My long term (and I mean long) will be to record every guitar properly. Until then it’s sore finger club!

Thanks a million Vic. Still trying to come to terms with returning to guitar in ‘later life’. How did that happen??

-
So proud of you Moonhare! What a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing your story with us, and looking forward to hearing more of your music 😀
-
Thank you so much. I think this is the best step forward I’ve had in years and long may it continue.

Moonshare! So touched by your story. I too am a recovering Dabbler (and lots of other bad habits). On June 19th it would have been 41 years (thank you Tony for disrupting that milestone!), I am a biker as well, cruisers and now adventure bikes (kinda have too in Denver 🙂 ). Thanks for your vulnerability and honesty about your “dis-ease” and your path to freedon. TAC is the cure!
-
Thanks @GSJeff for the encouragement. Just great to hear about your biking too. You don’t know how lucky you are not living on a cramped little island but we do still have some great biking in the highlands. My wife rides too and when festivals start again that’s us on our bikes and who knows, perhaps a guitar on my back? 🤘😎🎸

Good for you, Moonhare! It’s hard to ignore such obvious signs so “Don’t Stop” !
-
Yes – it’s hard to ignore the advice when it’s quite literally written on your plectrum!

@Moonhare, I was literally moved to tears by your “confession”. I have been here at TAC long enough to have had several cool offs and subsequent re-ignitions. Thank you for being my latest spark. Don’t get me wrong, every cooling off period didn’t see me put my guitar down or even stop the daily lessons. I just got discouraged and had backed way off the community sharing.
Those are the 2 things that make TAC absolutely unique: 1) The daily lesson method/arrangement. Even when we are in free fall, we are still improving our guitar skills instead of letting our guitar gather dust. And 2) the community helps readjust our unhelpful attitudes or as Tony likes to call them, our limiting beliefs.
I, too, would like to give you a hearty welcome. I, too, look forward to following you and learning from you. In fact, I am going to go subscribe to your YouTube channel right now. And I, too, think you are going to make stellar progress with Tony’s superior method and this amazing community. What I saw when you were playing that little blues line was someone who gets it. You kept rhythm and did the best you could, not worrying about your “mistakes”, not trying to make it “perfect”. That was a really great example for others who are new to both the guitar and music. You are a breath of fresh air to our wonderful community.

Hey Mike that is so encouraging from someone who has been involved for a while and knows the downs as well as the ups. I am sure I’m going to have those times when it seems easier to just put the guitar down but I think everything you said there about the unique way TAC works is a perfect fit for me. I had no idea there were so many people out there in exactly the same boat. Dabblers of the world unite! Looking forward to the journey and also thanks for the sign up on YouTube.
Now back to the F (ing) Barre Chord practice. And it was all going so well up to that point…. 🙄

Fantastic story and you’re guitar playing is not rubbish at all! Best wished on a wonderful new fretboard journey @Moonhare!🎵
-
Thank you. Have been loving your 100 day challenge by the way. Really inspirational and congrats on finishing!

-
DON”T STOP!! Love it! A tremendous story and thank you for sharing and inspiring.
Enjoy that guitar!
Tom

Thanks. Yes that guiter has been played more in the last month than the last decade. Daily practice has never been so much fun.

I too have been a dabbler since I play keys for my main instrument so have been super lazy about techniques for guitar 🙁 BUT just started this course 5 days ago and LOVE IT! First off I am so use to just strumming so trying to get my fret fingers to move has been such a challenge 🙃 This is a great way to wake up to being a player no matter what level! I am going to get my grandchildren in it since it doesn’t require a lot of time but definitely helps “strum” us along to be better 😃
-
Thanks a lot. It’s a two-edged sword playing keys. At least you already understand music and musicality but it can make you lazy and as Tony says it is routine and consistency that will give you the results in the end.

Loved your confession, and your determination to take on the challenge 🙂 My dad bought me a lovely Susuki Hummingbird guitar when I was at school I would sing with my sister. I learned a few songs and yes….. never progressed much just full of promises to myself. My dad also left me his Takamine which was just gathering dust (maybe not as much as yours) LOL Now at 57 and coming across Tonys Acoustic Challenge this is my last chance. Enjoyed the music you created. Thank you for your inspiration, very encouraging. Let the music play on…….
-
Hi there – I think the Takemine deserves a spin for sure. I am pretty much the same age as you and I think we’ve all made these empty promises over the years but once you get into TAC you realise that it can be fun learning and improving rather than a chore. Glad we are all here and getting the music therapy we so richly deserve!

Great video share. I too have recently started the TAC program and am sympathetic to your sore fingers. Today I’m growing proud of my calluses and hopefully eventually of my playing. Day by day I’m enjoying the journey. Thanks for your video.
-
Yes you know I have never been more glad to be in pain! Here’s to the next year and seeing where it takes us.

Absolutely loved your video and the story ( including all the great action shots) of your guitar journey. You are obviously so upbeat and enthusiastic ( as seen in your creative approach to your 30 day challenge and your fun notes and camera work. You are already “here” so to speak and I look forward to seeing more of your videos. I purchased some recording equipment this past year – I know very little about using it – but have to start getting down to the “ journey” of using it. You have inspired me to start.
-
Thank you so much @Robynvictoria . I do quite a lot of YouTube tutorials for home studio users so I’m used to doing videos and actually find it easier than trying to explain in text what is going on. Always happy to help with recording questions even if I’m in no place to give guitar tips! People on TAC have been so welcoming and friendly I’m feeling really positive about the next 11 months. Hope I have progessed enough to post a performance vid on my first TACiversary.

How lovely your vid was. I just signed up today and am so looking forward to learning. So sorry for the loss of your friend. You have your memories of him though that should warm your soul. Hugs from across the pond.
-
I hope you will enjoy as much as I have so far. You can see how supportive everyone is here and thank you for your kind words.
