  • 30DTP Week 1 – Blues baseline 🤬

Posted by FloridaKen239 on September 9, 2021 at 12:09 pm

Good Lord, that blues baseline is so frustrating. Been working on the first week stuff for about 15-20 min/session, 2x/day. I mean I only started 4 days ago and I see small bits of progress, but I can see how easy it is for people to just say screw it. I’ll keep at it because I know just like anything, it’s hard in the beginning.

I relate this to martial arts training. In the beginning, everything feels so awkward and terrible. But looking back, those basics are now second nature and the new stuff I work on now feels like it will never come.

As they say, if it were easy, everyone would do it!

Welcome to TAC @FloridaKen239 ! It can seem daunting at the beginning, but you’re right about it becoming more second nature or easier as you go forward. If you need a break, feel free to mark the lesson complete and move forward. You can always revisit it at a later time, and who knows, maybe it will be easier when you go back to it. It’s about having fun.

I couldn’t agree more. As a fellow martial artists I know exactly what you’re talking about. I have no musical instrument background and learning the guitar over the last couple months was like learning a new language but I haven’t given up and now I can play things (poorly) and it makes way more sense.

In fact, due to my martial arts background I don’t even care too terribly much about practice being “fun.” Of course there needs to be a fun payoff but practice doesn’t need to always be fun.

Hi @FloridaKen239 , welcome to TAC. I agree with @Loraine , she’s giving some great advice. It takes lots of patients and practice to get to where you want to go, it won’t happen overnight. Baby steps. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make it fun for yourself during the process👍 Starting and keeping a regular guitar routine is key🤩

Even though I’ve had the action on my guitar adjusted, the strings still seem too high for me to play frets 5-6-7-8 smoothly. Feels like I’m jumping hurdles. I do much better on frets 1-2-3-4.

I know what you mean. I had that problem with my previous guitar but my current one is much better.
