90 Day Goal – Break My Heart Sweetly (John Moreland) Cover
Posted by Kitman on January 3, 2023 at 7:23 pmOver this last 90 day TAC cycle my primary goal was to learn the fundamentals of finger picking. I did the skills courses available and also had the luck that many of the challenges were finger picking oriented. My outcome goal was to learn three songs. Two of them are from the TAC Song Vault (Freight Train and The Banks of the Ohio). Break My Heart Sweetly by John Moreland was the last one. There are still some pretty rough spots but I am pretty happy with the outcome after 90 days. PS. Sorry about the length of the song – I had to slow the BPMs down a bit to handle it at my current skill level. Input and ideas are welcome!

Beautifully done! Sung with a lot of heart and emotion. I liked the song length long because I did not want it to end. Good job and I’m looking forward to more.

so good ! that’s a tough song. you did a great a job. I think that slower bpm makes it even more powerful. i have started playing it but i must admit cheat a lot because it was so hard for me to play it correctly😆 it also doesn’t help that i play G i the lazy way so i have to do some gymnastics to get some of those hammers and transitions. well done!

Thanks very much @TMutter for taking your time to listen and for your feedback and encouragement. It is a tough song to learn – there is a lot going on. It took me playing it daily over the last 90 days to get to this point. I started of very slowly. I really appreciate your feedback, Terry!

Very nicely done, @Kitman You really captured the true essence of the song. It really shows you have worked hard in developing your finger picking! Yes, slower tempo but effective. The instrumental interludes are very well done. Your singing matches up great with it.
Congratulations for successfully meeting your 90 day goal! 👏

Very , very good, KM! Im loving the finger picking. Im trying very hard to get separate melody and independent thumb. (making baby steps progress) You also have a great recording set up. Right on bro!

Thanks very much @Mrfredsporty for watching the post and for your feedback and support. I really appreciate it! It is challenging to getting the thumb on “autopilot” to hold down the back beat while picking the melody and harmonies elsewhere. Lots of slow repetition and building muscle memory – at least for me. Keep at it – small steps will eventually pay off!

Very nice rendition. And kudos to you for following through with your 90 day goal. Those longer goals, once reached, really stay with you in your repertoire. And imprint on your soul. Thanks for sharing.

Hi @stevieblues and thanks very much for watching the post and for your feedback. I really appreciate it. I had to slow the BPM down a good bit from the original to both learn the song and continue to improve my technical ability on fingerpicking. It is a work in progress!!
