Among the many many things ive gained in my 4 months of tac is encouragement to try things. For instance I never picked up a flat pick in my life til I came here. Now Im working on Billy in the lowground. I never recorded my voice until arriving here..I never on this planet would try a video recording of me but Im working on getting one out to tac in the next couple of weeks. The latest thing Ive added to my practice, skills courses, daily challenges and playing songs I know ,is a long term or maybe a medium term goal of playing a James Taylor song, “Fire and Rain” just about note for note. It is not an easy finger picking song and it might take me months to learn. But the important small win is that Im trying. All thanks to tac.

@Mrfredsporty In 4 months time you have done a lot! I have to get back on the ball and record another song to post. I have a couple that I can play decently. You said your learning Billy in the Low Ground (is that in the Flat Picking section of the vault? I’m working on the ‘Bluegrass Rhythm (Starter), I love the sound of it so far, I just have to pick up my speed.

I have the music to “Fire and Rain” , it looks harder than all heck! But, if you do a section at a time, you’ll get there. Good Luck and happy picking.

I did pull out the music to ‘fire and rain’ last night. Just take it a step at a time. Break it up in sections and take her slow. You can do it and what a pretty song to play.

Did you find a good note for note tab on Fire and Rain? If so, may I ask where?

I really need to follow your example of defining goals more precisely, Mrfred! Alas, setting goals has never been one of my strengths, probably because I know I’m not so good at following through on them😆 Like you, I picked a fairly tough song that I would like to learn to play fingerstyle – Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe”. Actually I don’t even know how hard this one is considered to be, as there really aren’t many chords or difficult patterns, but Eddie Vedder plays it so fast! Oh well, nothing wrong with dreaming, I suppose!

what I find I have to do is put it in my daily planner. For some reason if i see it written down I feel obligated to follow up. Thats true of putting out the trash, going to grocery store , working out or any other thing i should be doing.

OMG. @Mrfredsporty , a disciplined, scheduled person. I am impressed. Most people, including me, wish we were so disciplined that we didn’t procrastinate very much. Good for you. A well ordered life. That’s my father, but it never stuck with me. 🙄

        MG 😀
