First first: I started playing bass guitar at church about 2 years ago. I had never played bass but they needed a bass player and I was willing to learn (and they were willing to be patient). Our associate pastor played 6 string, and we always had keys and often a drummer.

Second first: Our associate pastor retired about 3 months ago and I started playing 6 string instead of bass. I had some struggles with different strumming patterns, but I worked on them and now I have several more that I can play fairly well.

Third first: Last Sunday, the only musicians playing were me and the organist/pianist. She has decades of experience, music degree, teaches music, etc….the real deal. On our opening song (Shout To the Lord), she recommended that I play the whole song as the solo accompanist. I accepted the offer, and played it well with only one tiny hiccup that practically no one noticed. It was a big deal for me and my music journey to accompany the congregation and the choir armed only with my Martin 000-15M. (Had a NGD a few months back, PTL.)

Thanks to TAC and the encouragement of the community here and daily dedicated practice, my guitar skills are well beyond anything I ever dreamed of. Looking forward to the next two years of my guitar journey and where it leads me.👐🏽

@Maydog Wow, to have picked up the bass and then the 6-string guitar and the ability to play solos and accompanyments in such a short time is amazing. It sounds as if you like to take on challenges, and you do well with them. Very inspirational.

Thank you @UrsAngel and @Loraine for your encouragement. Just to clarify, I had already been playing 6 string for about a year (after a 25 year layoff) when I started playing the bass. I’m glad I did. Playing bass improved my 6 string skills, and playing 6 string helped my bass skills. I still played 6 string at home 90% of the time once I started on bass.
