  • Back after 1.5 yrs

I’m not sure how guitar fell out of my life so quickly. I had plateaued a bit, and went from regularly practicing, to not picking up my guitar really at all after Sept ’24. I came back to it last night after a great record listening party which re-sparked my interest and reminded me that this was something special I wanted back in my life.

I’ve forgotten a lot over the time off, but not as much as I thought I would. I’m two days in and hoping I can re-build my practice.

Nice to see you back! Everyday now though….that is the key….just 10minutes minimum…try not to overdue to get it all back in a few days. : ) oh whoops, I may have been talking to myself. Anymore wild travel excursions?

I can’t imagine what might have happened for you to stop abruptly after registering almost 500 sessions.

You might have an interesting story to tell over here: https://tonypolecastro.com/category/blog/guitar-stories/

I think it was a combination of many things – my work has been reorganized twice in the past 2 years, with three rounds of layoffs (didn’t impact me, but many people I know), I had emergency surgery (went well, and I’m doing fine but it took me 6 months to get back to my regular energy level, day to day), started cooking/exercising more to focus on health which took some of my free time. I also think at the time I put my guitar down I had been in a plateau and not seeing a lot of progress so it was harder to motivate myself on the days I could practice.

To be honest, I picked my guitar up a bit in January after the 1.5 yr break, but lost focus again and am hoping to re-build the practice for the rest of May. I think once the habit is formed, I really find a lot of joy in guitar, but between habit cycles, I tend to feel too tired to pick it up.

Awesome you’re back – me too, I started again after stopping end of ’23! Lots of life happened I guess. Two days in and enjoying the music again.

Welcome back after your little Australian Walkabout. Ease on in and don’t hurt or tire yourself out. Let the joy flow don’t try to push a rope.

Congrats on getting back in the saddle after 4 months off Kay – I’d say that’s a big win, not a small one.
