I also had trouble with this Daily.

Actually, in the comments below the Daily Lesson itself, I posted a comment that I didn’t care for this lesson and just didn’t “get” it. Must have been tired that day from work or whatever, but upon re-reading my post, I thought I sounded like a bit of a whiner. Felt bad about it………

My own post kind of kicked my own-self in the butt. It set my mind to working thru my personal feelings on it- and suck it up and get it learned. And I did…..

Now actually, I think I can play it pretty well, and I actually like it.

Maybe our small wins are a little bit similar?

Anyway- congrats on your win!

That’s so ironic that you gave yourself a kick up the butt! Perhaps a bit of distance helps with some of the daily challenges. I’ve gone back to some early ones late in the month and finally got them.

@Mark, thanks for sharing your experience. I can relate. I am grateful for the practice part of the lesson, especially for Bingo Bango. At a certain point, I just stopped playing and counted along with the music as Tony played. Then I practiced saying the timing to myself without the guitar. I am still pretty rough with this lick but I am sure it will come together in time.

Thanks, @Moonhare! As a life pattern, I have wanted to avoid “failure” (i.e., not doing well right off the bat). I enjoy the Daily Challenges that come easily. But I like the ones that don’t from the point of view of training myself to accept not doing so well with something, and just focusing on the act, not on how I feel about myself when not doing so well. If this makes sense. If I can do it with guitar, then …. 😀

I agree it is easy to play it safe, not make a fool of yourself. For me it has been a humbling experience learning an instrument I am not good at when I’ve been playing keyboards and bodhran for decades. But it is so much more satisfying when you’re pushing into seemingly unplayable territory and then it finally clicks. I have had a few of those moments in the past couple of months and they are what keep me picking up that block of wood and wire and trying again.

I ask this because the silver haired gent playing guitar looks a little like Tommy E🤔

He does a bit doesn’t he? But no he is a dutch musician I only met that once. The other two are very long standing touring buddies from a band called The Whisky Priests. Unfortunately Mick (on the banjo) died from Covid 19 last November which was a terrible loss to all of us.
