Day 57 of the Day Challenge
Posted by Michelle-PSL on March 28, 2021 at 3:03 pmI think I messed up my calluses with too much housecleaning this weekend. I’m admittedly a bit of a germaphobe and a clean freak. And my hubby had a hole in the plastic bag when he picked up the dog poop Saturday morning, got it on his hands, came inside, touched all kinds of things, and THEN decided to wash his hands and tell me what happened. 💩 UGH! I went on a cleaning rampage and messed up my fretting hand. So that, plus playing way too much yesterday and today, and incorporating a barre chord for the first time…let’s say not a stellar performance. But you know my saying. It is what it is! 😁Thanks for watching!

Seemed to be a struggle for you today, but as usual I appreciate your stick to it iv ness. Liked the song, keep on keeping on Michelle.
-
Thank you Dirk! May have to do this during a VOM and redeem myself! 🙂

I thought it was great Michelle! For sore fingers & mutiple takes, I thought you did outstanding! Way to persevere!
-
Michelle, enjoyed the vocals. Thanks for sharing. What is the challenge?
-
Thank you, Michael! There is a program called The 100 Day Challenge. It’s been going on for a number of years. You commit to doing something “arts-related” for 100 days. It started January 31st. I decided to focus on memory. So I’ve been posting a memorized performance of a song or lick for the last 57 days. It really is more of a Facebook and Instagram thing, but I’ve only been posting to my youtube channel and here on TAC. Only 43 more to go!
… The way things are going it will be mostly different licks for the rest of the week…

There will be ups there will be downs, but i thought you did a great job with this lovely song, despite the sore fingers, Michelle.
You should invest in Marigold gloves…..
-
Thanks, Beatrice! I don’t think they have Marigold gloves in the US. At least not on Amazon. But I did have a pair of nice thick chemical gloves that my hubby “borrowed” and have gone missing…😕

Beautiful vocals and all the right chords! congrats… day 57!!! WOW… You’re a better woman than I am shooting for 100 days of memorization…. I usually use the excuse: So many songs, so little time… and stick to the ones I know and add on for each VOM. I hope you take a much needed vacation when the 100th day is finally upon you.😊
-
Thank you, Marquita! Don’t know if I’ll take time off, but I’ll relax a bit and focus more on other things besides memorizing songs & licks.

Courage! @Michelle_in_PSL 57 songs in 57 days is an incredible feat. This 100 day challenge of yours is quite an experiment. I hope you enjoy it. We do.

Hi Maydog. Should have noted the title:
Say Something by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera

Nice rendition, @Michelle_in_PSL
Great singing and strumming.as usual 🙂 -
Wow. The SOUL comes through.
Going to start watching every day, because this is a lesson in humility, confidence, struggle, and overcoming. Super impressed.

Bravo! I love the mellow, Joni Mitchell-esque vibe. I too struggle to form barre chords, and have found for the “E” shaped ones, if I practice building them in reverse, I can do them a little faster. Thanks for the performance. 😺

Michelle, first off I really like this song. And your voice sounds wonderful. More guitar practice on this song will reveal a show stopper. I know you won’t give up. 👍
-
Wow Michelle! This song is PERFECT for your voice!!!!
57 songs in, don’t feel so down on yourself. I’ve only done about 6 or 7 new songs to me since February, and you do one EVERY DAY!!! with that in mind you did FANTASTIC!
This is one I hope you revisit after you complete your challenge because it fits your voice so very well.
-
Thank you Alfred! Yes, I like the song too. I have to get those barre chords down. Thanks for your kind words!

Using barre chords in a song within the first year of playing guitar? That’s a pretty special small win right there. Memorizing all these songs and licks? That’s another very impressive small win. And your voice. You always sing well, but sometimes your voice is just amazing. This song, this song really fits your voice. You sang this well enough to put on an album. thanks for posting and the continuing stream of entertainment.

Wow, @Mike-Gaurnier , I’m blown away by you comments. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the post. You never gave up! Strum was great, as was your voice.

Hi Michelle. This is the first one of your 100 day challenge posts I have caught and my first reaction is you sound pretty darn good for what you describe as an off day. Not a perfect performance but mostly good to excellent chord transitions – including the barres! Your singing is wonderful and well synced to your guitar rhythm. In fact, most of your challenge seemed to be in remembering some the words and a couple of the chord changes. You sound much better than you give yourself credit for! I’ll try to tune in and catch a few more of your posts. PS. You should try to play at least one song at every VOM you attend. That will build your confidence more than you know!

Thanks so much for the feedback and advice @PhilBarru . Yes, the 100DayChallenge, at least for me, is about memorization. I had shared with someone else that I had an opportunity to play a guitar (not my own – outside of my house) and I couldn’t even think of a chord progression to play. I felt embarrassed and a little ashamed. All the practicing I was doing and nothing to show for it!!! So I took up this challenge to engage my failing brain and memorize songs.
I would love to play at every VOM, and I play at most Sundays I attend, and all the Saturdays except when I’m co-hosting. But Fridays are tough. I have a full time job and home responsibilities, and no time to rehearse a song before the VOM starts. And I have learned that having a well-rehearsed song helps with the live performance nerves. Unless I choose a song earlier in the week and practice it daily, I’m not comfortable or confident enough to perform on a Friday. At least not yet …
