  • Day 87 of The 100 Day Project

Posted by Michelle-PSL on April 27, 2021 at 4:24 pm

Today’s song is “Dimming of the Day” by Richard Thompson. Bonnie Raitt’s cover is the one most familiar to me. It was also recorded by the writer and his wife, Richard and Linda Thompson and covered by David Gilmour, Mary Black, and Alison Krauss & Union Station.

I started to learn this song a few weeks ago, but it didn’t sound good strummed. So I waited until I got a little better at fingerpicking to try to pull it off. I am just hungering for better ways to play songs like this, and hope I can do much better in the future.

    Thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing that. I have great memories of the phrase Dimming of the Day at the conclusion of a day at a Celtic Festival. You made me very happy listening to your playing and your voice.

@michelle-psl, love your take. This is a wonderful song, and your voice really matches Thompson’s tune and words. Love this song, and we use it a lot in one of my live (hopefully soon) jams locally. Thanks.

Thank you @AttyTJ ! I wish there were local jams here. Still working on starting one locally. Would love to hear what this song sounds like at a jam.

Really like your version. And I thought the guitar playing sounded good. But, most of all, I am SO impressed by your commitment to your self-imposed challenge. The end is near. What are you gonna do the next 100 days? 😂

Thank you @JoeW ! The next 100 days I plan to focus on technique and music theory so I can become as good as you! 😉
