Day 95 of The 100 Day Project
Posted by Michelle-PSL on May 5, 2021 at 2:17 pmToday’s song is another pre-recording. Good thing I had it in my mini song vault because I was under the weather today and stayed home from work. So I’ve been practicing and playing, but not feeling up to recording.
The song is “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child” which was recorded by Van Morrison, but is actually a “miscellaneous traditional” song from the US Civil War era.
5 More Days to Go!!😋
Hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching!
P.S. I have a challenge within my challenge, which is to record female artist songs for the last 5 days of my project. I have two I’ve been working on, one I just started to learn, one that’s a possibility, and one more to find. Want to end this thing with a little girl power! 😊💁♀️

This was a song that my Dad played when I was a kid, and I always thought it was only an old folk song. I didn’t know Van Morrison did it. You did the song justice, nice job

If I can make a suggestion for the last song… Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez would sound nice in your voice.
-
Thank you @Alfred , and thanks for the suggestion. I PROMISE to record Diamonds and Rust sometime in the future, but it is definitely an involved fingerstyle song, and it’s taking me a while just to learn the beginning of it. Going to be strumming this project to the end! 😋

Sorry you’re not feeling well @Michelle-PSL but way to go. The finish line is within sight. I especially like your challenge within your challenge. Big ups on that 👍👍👍

Very nice @Michelle-PSL . I used to play a “miscellaneous traditional” fingerstyle solo version of this song, and you’ve inspired me to dig out and play it again. I’m another one who didn’t know Van Morrison covered it.
-
You have really got the steady strumming down very well @Michelle-PSL I know how much you have put yourself in the eyes of the world for these 100 days! But I must tell you, You are the winner!!! You have done a marvelous job! Respect!!!🙏🙏

Great job on guitar and voice, Michelle! Here’s another song suggestion: Buffy St. Marie’s “Until it’s time for you to go” (also covered by Neil Diamond, Elvis, and Emily Claire Barlow.

Man, @Michelle-PSL you really nailed that one. Excellent timing, seemingly effortless chord transitions, and hitting the root notes perfectly. A+

Nice consistent Boom-chick Michelle! Don’t think I had heard that song before now, very nice in a melancholy way.👏🏻👏🏻

Great job Michelle. And I look forward to your last 5 choices. I’m gonna have to try to catch all 5 just for fun.

Amazing you tackled such an ambitious 100 day self-challenge Michelle-PSL! My very favorite rendition of Motherless Child was done by Nancy Nevins of Sweetwater (first group to play Woodstock Festival). Sweetwater – Motherless Child [1969] Live – YouTube

Woodstock was a little before my time, but that doesn’t mean I don’t wish I was old enough to be there! 😎Thanks @guitargeezer ! Will check it out.

Michelle-PSL, this video might also interest you Women of Woodstock Reinvented – YouTube I highly recommend the first Sweetwater album, one of my favorites. Looking forward to hearing your #100! Play on.

Very cool cover of the song @guitargeezer ! Very much flavored by the music of the era. That flute player was AWESOME!
