Drop D Improv Exploration…
Posted by Kitman on June 25, 2022 at 10:07 pmHi all,
For some reason I was having some difficulty finding the inspiration to land a good improv for this weeks challenge. So… I followed my friend @MikeGaurnier ‘s advice he offered up to another TAC member: approach the challenges with an open mind and a child like wonder to the information shared and the guitar and see where it takes you (not his exact words but what seems the gist of his message to me). This improv is pretty much off the cuff and unplanned. I did have loads of fun! Thanks Mike!
As always your feedback and your ideas are welcomed and valued!

Now that’s what I’m talking about, Kit @Kitman . See, I have written a number of songs now and I just messed around on the guitar just like that until I found something that “felt” like the emotions behind the lyrics. For myself, I start with lyrics so I know what I’m looking for. But it is very common to come up with a riff or progression and then ask yourself what does that “feel” like to you and what words would capture that.
Now the cool thing is you had fun and we enjoyed it and it sounded good. I don’t know if that’s 3 things or maybe more (it’s all synergistic 😂 ).

Wow, KM, psychedelic in a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western sort of way, very cool.😎

That eas great Kitman. I really enjoy your solos – more of a composition/jam. I also thought of Ennio Morricone during thr first part as pointed out earlier. Great rhythm and melody exploration!

Very cool sound! Great job creating a mood with the guitar. I really liked the way you created a tough sound in parts.

That was mighty impressive, to say the least!! For me, improvising is still pretty much like nuclear physics – or trying to learn Chinese😆 I usually don’t even attempt that part of the Wednesday challenges. But watching fellow TACers like you absolutely rockin’ it, I’m hopeful that maybe, someday, it will begin to seem possible. Thanks for the inspiration!
