I just got back from a trip to Minnesota where I was visiting my family and some friends. I met up with my college friends at the Boats and Bluegrass Festival in Winona (so fun!). I asked my friend who we were camping with if he could bring a guitar that I could borrow for my TAC sessions. He insisted that we also jam for a bit and taught me my very first song – You Are My Sunshine. I was terrified but I was also among friends and they all cheered me on as I played.

I then went to visit my parents on the farm I grew up on. I had ordered a used Martin LX1 Little guitar for the trip and it was waiting for me when I arrived. I wanted a guitar that I could leave with them so that my nieces and nephews had something to play (if they wanted to) when they visited home. We now have a family guitar! My folks joined me on the porch one evening and we all sang You Are My Sunshine while watching the cows graze out in the field. For a family that claims to “have absolutely no musical talent” we did really well and it felt like another big step to changing that story. Neither of my parents picked up the guitar themselves while I was visiting, but we talked a lot about music and I did some YouTube searches of old songs they loved when they were young. I really enjoyed sharing my guitar journey with them.

That is a fabulous tale. I can really picture it in my mind. There is simply no life that is not enriched by music and the connections you make through it. 🤟😎🎸
