Posted by Braden on May 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm

Hi everyone here’s my attempt at Fiddler’s Green, a beautiful sad song by one of my all time favorite bands. Took me many takes but finally got one that I can live with:) hope you like it, thanks for watching:)

Awk! I would have given up before 15 takes. Great persistence and good result. I like your slides and hammer ons and pull offs. And the song is a good one. You may be performing this one now in your sleep after all that recording effort.

Wow! I clicked expecting John Connolly’s classic story of a fisherman’s life, and afterlife (?) and found this gem instead. Such a great song and your heartfelt presentation is really moving. Thanks for hanging in and posting this.

I really like this performance @Braden. As you know I am a Canadian, grew up there and I was and still am a fan of artists like The Band (Robbie Robertson), Gordon Lightfoot, The Guess Who (Burton Cummings), BTO, Rush, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Chilliwack, Lover Boy, Saga, Parachute Club and many more that I not thinking of … oh David Clayton-Thomas of Blood Sweat and Tears. I moved to Florida in the late 80’s and never was exposed to the Tragically Hip. But after the fact, when Gord was dying I did try pretty hard to like their music. I gave it a good effort but couldn’t warm up to them, maybe I just missed too much by not being exposed to Canadian Radio at the end of the century. All my Canadian friends love their music.

Hi Pete! thanks for watching and your comments. Yep, so many great Canadian acts over the years. I concur with all on your list but will add Leonard Cohen, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Crash Test Dummies, Cowboy Junkies, and Blue Rodeo just to name a few more. Too bad you never connected with the Hip but I would say keep on trying! Thanks again brother and keep on rockin!

Yup, unbelievable song writing chops there between Joni, Neil, Cohen and Gordon and some world class voices with vary few who can match them: Mitchell, Cummings and Clayton-Thomas….

And Paul Rodgers! Oh My Goodness, I was today years old when I learned he’s a Canadian! I love Paul Rodgers, so many great memories from my youth.
Edit: I see that he married a Canadian beauty queen in ’97 and later became one himself, glad that I wasn’t completely crazy thinking he’s british!
