  • Fret board notes

Hi, I am new to this forum. I have been watching and playing the “Daily” stuff and working through the “Lessons”. I am just curious, Tony shows which string and fret to play in the videos, why doesn’t he also say what note that he is playing so people can learn the fret board notes not just string to fret? Hopefully that is not a bad question to ask. Just curious.

Almost everyone can find a position on the fingerboard via Tony’s directions. Telling people what note that is would only really help those that already know where to find it. Learning where the notes are just isn’t as effective as a teaching tool IMHO. Tony’s all about keeping it simple and fun, not to frustrate newbies. Learning the notes is important but irrelevant to the lessons.

It would be harder for me if Tony just said A note. Then it would be where’s the A note, which A note. If I am writing my own tab it’s easier to update with Lo-E string , 5 fret.

For myself, I do try to learn the note as well as position but remember if alternate tuning is being used or a capo, then the note would change.
