I’d like to declare that I had a small win today- if I may. Sorry about being long-winded.

I’ve been helping close friends empty out their house in preparation for a garage sale- they have to move to Texas to be able to have their daughter provide care for them. (It’s tough because I know I may never see them again once they drive away).

Anyway, he had three guitars, in cases, all dusty, stuck over in a corner of an upstairs bedroom– they haven’t seen daylight for likely 15 years.

He “gave” me one for next to nothing- (he said the price was $15- and he would NOT take a penny more), but only if I “take it and play it- it’s been sittin’ long enough”.

Well, it’s nothing expensive or fancy, and has a few nicks and issues, but nothing serious.

I spent ~2 hours cleaning, polishing, inspecting, oiled the fretboard, and threw some new strings on it.

I did some internet searching on it……. It’s a Hohner Contessa, made in Germany, (there was no tag inside)- and by comparison-pictures from various vintage-guitar websites, it was made around 1969-1972.

Well- It SOUNDS and PLAYS fantastic!!! I know it’s not a big-namer, or expensive, or in perfect condition- (but it is really pretty-nice overall, just not “perfect”).

Anyway- that’s my small win. I may have that guitar till I check out- if for no other reason than our friendship.

@the-old-coach , Wow, great win. You might not see your friends again, but you have something to remember them by. Make sure to make a video of you playing it and send it to them. I’m sure they’d get a kick out of it.

Love this! Both the generosity of your friends knowing the “gift” would mean more to you than to some stranger, and the chance for you to add to your guitarsenal with a pretty unique item. Enjoy!

Thank you all for the nice comments!

The dollar value of this guitar means nothing compared to real value to me.

    And— the guitar SOUNDS incredible!

Cadgirl- this is a wonderful thing that you have said here. and it will happen.

    GerryB- Nailed it.

Great win @the-old-coach 🤩 Did your neighbor offer any background story about how he got the guitar🤔? Knowing some of it’s history would add to it’s charm IMHO😉 I agree with @Cadgirl , it would be cool if you sent them a video of you playing the guitar👍👍
