  • How do I start the daily challenge?

Posted by OldBear49 on July 17, 2023 at 3:18 pm

Today marks 73 days since I signed up with TAC. I’ve managed to complete the TAC quick start, daily stretches, 30 days to play, 5 day routine challenge, jump start strumming and next 6 chords. I’ve also been able to stick with my goal of playing daily for at least an hour, I guess it’s easier to do when you’re retired. I think, but am not sure that my next step is to attempt the daily challenge. I looked at this weeks challenge and find it is about “hammer on’s”. I guess my question is about my choice of doing this challenge or are old weekly challenges archived somewhere that I can access?

    Hi OldBear49,

You should just start the daily challenges. It’s ok if you can’t complete the challenge. The idea is to attempt them. They are not meant to be mastered. If Tony’s lesson is too much for you, then just focus on a tiny bit of it. For example you can just work on one string and finger for the hammer on not the whole lesson. Also don’t spend hours on it either or you will just get frustrated. Give it the 10 minutes time he suggests and move on to something else you like to play if you have time. Even if some of the weeks challenges are harder than others hang in there! The point is, to pick up your guitar every day. The few minutes you are exposed to a new technique or the little bit of time spent on skills will pay off. In a few months you will be surprised how much you have improved and enjoy playing your guitar.

I’m in my 3rd yr of TAC. Although I did play some before joining, I can say the daily challenges have kept me playing regularly. My fingers are so much stronger! I can finally use a pick without dropping it all the time 😆. Which is actually amazing to me because I hated using a pick and only strummed with my hand picked with my fingers. But I hung in there and am so glad I did. I’m now using new techniques and leaning songs I thought I’d never play.

    Good Luck,

    Kim

Thank you for your input and words of encouragement, nothing to do but take a deep breath and dive into the deep end.

Just in case you don’t know, you can save the daily challenges to favorites by clicking and on the heart under the video. That way you can come back to it whenever you want to work on it. After the month grouping of lessons is finished you will not be able to access them again unless you save them. They will repeat eventually though. There are TABs for the lessons as well which is next to the heart.

Congratulations on 73 days with TAC – Welcome!

@Kim-Fitz has given such great pointers! Start the current daily challenges. They follow a routine that you can learn more about by reviewing the TAC Quick Start in the Skills courses. Every week follows the same structure. Each week has a topic, and each day builds upon the previous lessons for the week. Kim’s correct, once a month transfers to the next month, it is gone and not accessible, unless you saved the lesson to your favorite. To see your favorites, go to your profile drop down and click favorites. They do rotate back around eventually.

Glad you found TAC. Good luck and have lots of fun.

I’m at the same point as OldBear49 and was coming to the forum to ask the same question.

I had looked at the first Daily Challenge (Monday’s) and was frustrated that I could barely get one measure of it figured out in my practice time. I was thinking I would spend 2-4 days on it, but it they go away that isn’t going to work.

It seems very counter-intuitive to me that I can get anything out of a daily challenge spending only 10 mins a day on it. I feel like I learned nothing in 10 mins.

Patience and that isn’t easy when you first start. Tony’s system works, but the most challenging part for me was patience. You can save the daily lessons and review them later in the week. Good luck in your journey, we are all here for you.

    Consistency is key

    Baby steps and motivation

    Identify your best daily window(s)

    and practice practice practice

It gets easier and more fun as you progress!!!

    Welcome to TAC my friend

I had fun learning Freight Train from skill courses: Fingerpicking Jumpstart (only if you want to learn Fingerpicking though) but for me, I still play it every day for warm up and retention. Find what you WANT to learn and you will find your motivation.

    Good Luck to you
