How I TAC – My Guitar Routine…Ted_D
1. How many days per week do you play?
I play 5 days per week typically Monday – Friday. Since I’m working those days, I add my guitar routine into my daily schedule. Some weeks, I may play on a Saturday or Sunday too.
Additionally, on Tuesdays I have “music night” and play for an hour after dinner. Typically, this session includes a Skills Lesson(s), and learning a new song.
2. What time of day do you play?
Generally, I play after work, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Tuesday’s it’s 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm
3. Where do you play?
I play in my office where my PC is. For recording, I play in the back bedroom as my office is on the front of the house overlooking the street, which can get noisy.
4. What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible, name 3 ways)
My guitar life prior to TAC was unfocused, almost nonexistent. Sometimes I’d play daily, that was decades ago, generally it was occasionally for a few minutes. Months would go by and there would be no playing. Needless to say, I made very little progress.
Having a consistent routine has provided the following for me:
a. With a focus now, it has helped me to develop an intention and resolve to succeed.
b. Since the routine encompasses lessons, skills and theory it has allowed me to develop my interest in music. When I listen to music, which is always I am better able to identify instruments, keys, nuances of the playing, pull offs, hammer on’s, etc. It really makes listening much more interesting. Thus, expanded my music appreciation.
c. Lastly, the routine has increased my curiosity around ways to play, genres and guitars themselves. I include Tony’s Acoustic Tuesdays as part of my routine. Introductions to new music, quality guitar builders, TAC member stories, and so much more!!
5. Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?
A drink; sometimes coffee, always water…maybe something a bit stronger 😊
