How I TAC – my Routine
I’ve outlined it using the questions below:
1.) How many days per week do I play?
In the routine I’ve outlined for myself I’ve committed to at least 6 days per week (Monday through Saturday). I often exceed this. I’m retired and the guitar is a challenge, a period of relaxation and amusement. I just love music.
2.) What time of day do you play?
I’m not as consistent as I would like. I usually play in the morning after breakfast but frequently go back to it around 4:00 in the afternoon.
3.) Where do you play?
I play in my my music room. I’m surrounded by musical instruments and frequently accompanied by my dog, unless I crank up the amplifier. She seems to have a good taste in music as she leaves if I’m messing up badly.
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
Before I had a routine playing guitar was like learning it all over again. At best all I could do was try to play the same chords that I learned years ago. Or I would revert to playing classical guitar which I still love but again the same old music.
– By developing a habit of playing regularly, I can see improvements – if not day by day then at least week over week. I can schedule my time to work on things I know have to be improved on.
– Get’s me out of jail… Know one questions if I head off to the music room to practice as it’s a family ritual. In the morning or late afternoon, it’s my time.
– Focus and fun. If I get sufficient time to play, I can isolate my time into serious practice – like finger-picking exercises/moving from chord to chord to playing a new song or even trying to innovate on a theme of my own.
5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?
I like coffee but I find turning on my amplier occasionally gives a whole new dimension to my music It certainly expands on errors but sounds differently.
