  • How I TAC – Robert_Gresham

1.) How many days per week do you play? I would say anywhere between 3 and 7 but mostly 5 or 6.

2.) What time of day do you play? It varies quite a bit, anywhere from late morning to late in the evening. I’m retired so there is a lot of flexibility in my day.

3.) Where do you play? I play in my office/den, where the computer is handy for lessons and YouTube inspirations and my guitars are next door in the laundry room staying humidified.

4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? I started playing in my teens and became a decent fingerpicker in my twenties but after that my guitar life began to stagnate. I ended up just playing enough to keep my skills alive but didn’t learn much that was new and wasn’t having a lot of fun with it.

Then a few years ago a friend, who I found out loved fingerstyle as much as I do, told me about this guy Tony Polecastro over in Bozeman that had a pretty cool site online. I tried in on for a month and now I’m into my 4th year of TAC . It has really invigorated my guitar life. The 10 minute a day thing has really helped. Even if it stops there (which it rarely does) I feel like I’m still moving forward. I am gaining more focus when I practice tunes I’m trying to learn. And because I’m playing most days now, rust does not accumulate as quickly and the frustration that used to cause me is mostly gone. Also, because I’m more well practiced, I feel more confident playing in front of others, though that’s still a work in progress. I still have quite a ways to go before I could say I have good practice habits but the ones I have acquired have paid me back in spades!

5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine? I found an office chair that has arms that fold out of the way for my playing sessions and I have a shoebox I can use for a footrest when those long pinkie stretches prove to be too much for my normal playing posture. Oops, that’s two….
