I changed my strings!
Posted by Marisa on May 7, 2021 at 8:18 pmSo, I totally shredded my strings since I got my yamaha for Christmas. I brought her to the guitar store and they said I’d have to leave it for a week, which was not happening. So, I bought strings, watched 2 videos and took the job on. Was a little like giving the baby it’s first bath! But, I did it, ever so carefully. I used different strings, and gave the fret board some TLC. It’s like a totally different guitar with a subtle difference in tone. I had an awesome playing session after that! Yay!

That’s really cool @Marisa. I think if people realized how easy it is, everyone would change their own strings. Give me the right tools and a good YouTube video and I can fix anything LOL.

Nice!. I wasn’t so careful changing my son’s strings today and skewered my thumb… Ever so careful beats complacent any day. 😛

Yeah, no one told me about the dangers. Had one pop and nearly take out an eye. @Michaelk73 recommended safety goggles, and I think @Rickyk recommended a hockey mask – LOL!🏒

Congratulations! I did mine last month and I don’t think they are on right. I know Tony has a video on it but I thought I could figure it out. I’m going to have to look it up and try again. Again Congrats

Way to go Marisa! I just did the same thing this morning…first time ever. Watched a video on Tony’s YouTube channel and followed his steps through to completion.

Outstanding. Changing your own strings will help your guitar sound better, save money, and allow you to experiment with different types of strings for different tones. Congratulations

That is cool – what strings did you change to – I am thinking of changing mine on my Tanglewood but am bewildered by the range available.

I kinda just looked at what the manufacturer suggested, then I picked one that I was different from what I had to change up the sound. I used a phosphor bronze. I figured, it wasn’t a lifelong commitment, so I went for it. @Greebosolo
