I was kind of in a rut . I was a severe dabbler! I could play couple of folk tunes back in the 60s. But then of course I quit for years and never made it out of beginner fingerpicker. Ive been here close to a year and just felt I was not making progress. But then I realized that Ive gone from about 2 or3 songs to more like 7 or so. I noticed that as im picking around suddenly Im adding little mini licks or runs. I also went from a $150 guitar to a commitment of a phenomenal Martin Super D. I also now play everyday as opposed to a few weeks ;quit several years; stick my toe back in sort of thing. And it strikes me that these are things that kind of just creep up and start building more knowledge, commitment, and even joy. Tony is right : consistency is the name of the game

I can’t get the picture of the ant eating the elephant outta my head. Haha!

Those are some pretty cool accomplishments in just a year. I’m so glad you realized them before your rut win out. Keep on plunking away!

Thanks for that timely prod, Mrfred! I’ve been in kind of a rut myself lately, but you are so right about how all the learning seeps in there and you don’t even realize it sometimes. I have gone from dabbler to all-out guitar geek since joining TAC last year. Now if I could just get a bit more focused…….😆

For me, anyway, it’s hard to stay focused when there are soooooo many different ways to go….

    Congratulations, Fred!

It does creep up on you. After a while, I sometimes feel like I’m not making much progress until something comes around again on the Challenges, or I catch myself just picking something absent-mindedly(?) that I’ve learned previously and not really paying attention. Hmm. Guess I am making progress.

    Keep up the good work.

    Have a great weekend!
