Icing Improv Take ???
Posted by Kitman on June 5, 2022 at 9:20 pmAs you all might be able to tell, I had some time to lay this weekend! Sorry for hogging the forum.
I’ve been working on the Icing improv since it was presented in the challenge last week. It seems I absolutely must explore all the incorrect notes to play… and boy were there some doozies! 😂.
I finally landed this one.
As always, open to input and ideas!

Very nice improv @Kitman 👏👏👏 You did a great job of integrating the “open string technique” into you melody lines😱👍👍 Great overall performance😎 Thanks for posting, I enjoyed listening🤩

Great improv Kitman! 👏 Thanks for sharing your video. 😎🎸👏

Nice job Kitman! You really got open string licks going. I’ve been working on this one too.I’m starting to see it sounds better to pause and take breath while phrasing a solo. You did a good job of that. Thanks for poasting
-
Thank you @Tim77 I appreciate your kind words and encouragement. I discovered the same thing you did – let the song breath a bit through some spacing of the improv around it. I also found it helped me to have an “anchor lick” with which I ended each series. Would love to see your improv sometime. It is amazing to see all the different ways we apply the learnings – and we learn from one another! 😀

Good job, KM.I especially like the up and down the neck coupled with the nice runs. I’m still a slave to first position
-
Thank you @Mrfredsporty . I also have a tendency to get boxed into a position on the neck somewhere. The use of open strings with the scale that Tony taught us was very helpful to me to “play outside my the box” 🙃. The other thing I did was to come up with an idea of what and where I would play for each stanza of the backing track. Traversing the neck is exhilarating… and a bit scary! 😱

Kitman–
Nice job- fun to watch!
Like MrFred said- that’s ways off for me still. I never have done much if any of the “improv” stuff like that. Don’t know why- just haven’t.
Watching your video post is gonna change that. It looks challenging, nerve wracking, and fun all at the same time! So the music acts as metronome to keep you in time also(?)
Thanks for sharing-

Thanks @the-old-coach . I appreciate your input and encouragement. It was a bit un-nerving at times. It took me from last Wednesday to this past Sunday to get something decent. I started out with a very slow BPM on the metronome (60) and worked from there.
I don’t have video of all of that but I do have video of all the takes I had to do in Sunday to get this passable one. It is a bit long and there may be some spicy words in there,, however happy to share if you and or others would find it helpful. 😃

Kitman- Speaking only for myself- I’m good.
I have deleted about a million takes of my own to get the 3 or 4 videos I’ve posted here in TAC.
