  • I’m back!

Posted by Mrfredsporty on January 22, 2024 at 7:39 am

After not being here for a year I’m back. Why, how come? Well I needed the structure and support. I’ve found that I’m just drifting around. Now Tony has stopped his great acoustic Tuesday and I miss that. You know what else I miss…..you guys! The forum here is one the best supports around. I know more what I want (folk finger style) and have decided at age 79 (which is the new 78 and a half) to dive in all the way. My guitars have changed. My “leave it out in open” guitar is a Martin special d which I believe was made for guitar center and is made of ovangkol back and sides with a spruce top. It’s used and ran about $1000. BUT! My main guitar is a monster I’ve named Arnolt! Cuz it is big and can’t be messed with. It is new super d Martin with spruce top and koa back and sides. Anyway I miss you guys but now I’m back. Still a returning beginner plus.

    @Mrfredsporty ;

I haven’t been on the forums as much as I used to be, but I’ve been around enough that I wondered why I hadn’t heard from you.

79 is the new 78 1/2? That’s pretty funny, Fred. So, what’s that make me at 68 1/2? Maybe 67? Or is that stretching? 😂

Well, I’m guessing you have a pretty large frame since you have 2 dreadnoughts. They are too big for me.

Anyway, I never left, per se, simply because I bought a lifetime membership. However, after 2 or 3 years, I did drift away. I tried a lot of other sites, both free and paid. But I never found anything that could replace TAC. Yeah, sure, a lot of the other sites are good. But it’s the method that Tony created using the principles found in some books about habit formation, becoming successful, and winning attitude that really makes the difference.

It’s real easy to think his system is kinda vague and the other systems are very specific. But actually it’s the other way around. Tony’s system leads to steady progress. Period. Other systems just keep you in a perpetual loop of poor to mediocre skill level. Again, period.

Glad you have found this out and returned.

    MG 😀

      Mike–

This is a great post you have done here! I just found out I still have access to the TAC Forum- (I passed on renewing on my Jan 12 date)- so that is great! But I’m like a fart in a skillet sometimes- (you can tell in my posts)- and think I’ll likely re-join at some point—- for the same reasons Fred and you mention.

Anyway– great to hear from you, Fred!

Welcome back Fred. Look forward to your forum interactions. You were missed. I, like Mike and at his suggestion, elected to pay for the lifetime membership. Has paid dividends and I am approaching 1K playing sessions. I too miss Acoustic Tuesdays and the TAC parties yet have really liked the recent song based challenges.

Your guitars must be wonderful. I’m more of an OO kind of player for comfort. Continue to enjoy your best guitar life.

Nice to see you Fred. I have done some looking myself. Nothing is TAC’s equivalent. Other good stuff out there but none fits the personal guitar trainer model. It has been the staple of my success.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome back! I decided to go whole hog in (even though I’m a vegan) and got the lifetime membership as well as fretboard wizard . I’m starting the wizard first and then will jump into lessons/challenges later. Of course i will be following the forums. For you new folks the forums are the best there is and you will learn tons from them as well as getting tremendous support

Let me add my welcome to the others. You will love the Fretboard Wizard 2.0 and the new song based technique lessons. With Tony adding more rug rats to his household, he has had to be more efficient with his time allocation. He has done well with these new ideas inside TAC while letting things like Acoustic Tuesday having to be put on hold. I recall when I had young ones, I gave up gardening and regular guitar practice. but as I neared an empty nest I picked both of them back up. I am happy to have you back in the forum.

Good info Albert. Can’t wait to get into the new challenges but will postpone because fretboard wizard is pretty time consuming

Welcome back @Mrfredsporty . I’ve had a similar revelation. Although I never officially left, I failed to log in on a daily basis and roamed around the internet instead. After New Year’s I decided that I missed Tony and the forum and I wasn’t really progressing or playing regularly with a purpose. So my realization was that the daily challenges give me both consistency and purpose. Coming back is already showing progress in this month’s challenges. I like the new song based lessons and I went back to Fretboard Wizard and found that it has been revised and improved. Yep, I’m back and know this is where I belong.

you nailed it. even though im concentrating on the fretboard wizard i branched out a little today and went to the finger picking section where i nailed the first 4 lessons….and then came lesson 5. tony leads you right to the edge of the cliff and then just gives you a gentle shove and suddenly you are freewheeling!
