Trying to get better at strumming. I always focused on flat picking….Really hard to sing and strum a pattern at the same time but I’m getting better at it. I intend to add more of the intro rolling finger picked part that I left out and the little solo turn around part between verse three and four in my final version. I think i need to change the strum pattern from dddud to dd udu aka 1 2 3 &4 to 1 2 &4&

Maybe someday if I ever get any good I’ll do Workingman Blues or Makeup n Tight Fitting Jeans

Hi @That_Guy , nice rendition👏👏 You seemed to maintain the strumming pattern and tempo throughout👍👍 It looked like you were giving your wrist a real good workout there😱 Have you tried using more of your elbow to do the strumming? I know it may be a little harder at first (especially when playing a dread in a seated position) but I believe you’ll have better control of the pick while strumming😎 Oh, by the way, that is a really nice looking guitar🤩 Can’t wait to hear the “final version”!

I keep forgetting to do it but i noticed in alot of youtube videos of songs I want to learn they seem to wrap their arm around the back of the guitar near the strap button instead of over the top. Seems to be the best way to strum near the back of the sound hole

Figuring out how to make strumming not harsh sounding with a stiff pick is turning out to be really hard. The hardest thing to learn was to dig in way less barely even touching them compared to how you do with a soft pick but the tone is worth it.

Yes @That_Guy , but they are standing, not seated🤔 And I bet they’re finger or flat picking single notes in these photos (nice photos by the way) where the motion is in the wrist, and when they strum full chords, the motion is from the elbow👍

I think your strumming was pretty good. I hadn’t noticed guitarists wrapping their arm around the back of the guitar before. I might give that a try.

I’ve been into 1950 60 70’s country lately. Seems to be the way people used to do it back then in the songs i like. Also note they used to put the strap on the headstock so I don’t know if that has something to do with it

Who doesn’t like a good Murl Haggard tune? Thanks for putting it out there. I think the intro has become classic on Mama Tried. Good that you are keeping it in.

Working on the solo turn around to add to the songs final cut.

Wow who know attempting a Roy Nichols electric guitar solo on acoustic with .13 gauge strings would be so hard lol.

Getting closer to sounding right with some adaptations. Quadruple pull offs just lose too much sound level on non-electric
