One of the lovely things about tac is the exposure to so many artists and the stirring up of adventuring out of my usual artists. So, exploring around I heard this huge Hawaiian guy not even playing a guitar but rather a Martin ukulele. I know that this is on the edge of acoustic guitars but bare with me .His name was Israel Kamakawiwo’ole sometime called IZ. Many of us have seen The Wizard of Oz and remember the great Somewhere Over the Rainbow song.Fine, swell, Ive heard it a bout a zillion times. But wait! I recently saw a youtube version by This aforementioned huge Hawaiian playing the tiny ukulele and singing his version of it. It was so different and SO (!)beautiful that it brought me to tears. If you get a chance look it up you wont be disappointed and you too may feel some tears. There is also a followup from his funeral that really moves me too. All thanks to my exposure to tac. I just am amazed how the “10” minutes a day can help me grow. Thank you Tac.

Yes, I play that song for my grandchildren with my wife on uke.

It has some challenging changes in it.

I say it there are two songs “Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World”

Thanks so much, Tim. I’m putting it on my list to learn on guitar. If only I could capture the magic he displayed

I remember that song causing such a sensation when it came out. But I was astounded when I googled it and realized that was nearly 30 years ago! Seems like IZ was a pretty fascinating person, who put a lot of living into his fairly short lifetime. The magic of music!

Yep, @Mrfredsporty , IZ was one of the most special performers we’ve ever had. How wonderful that his music was shared with the rest of us outside of Hawaii.

    MG 😀

One of my all time favorite covers @Mrfredsporty and I have to admit that sometimes ai have a few emotional moments while performing the tune. It’s funny as just last week I went out and found a more complete guitar tab for IZ’s OTR/IWW melody because I want to dust it off and get ready to sing it to my grandson soon. Found a good one if anyone is interested. 😃
