Tony’s Acoustic Challenge – The New Way to Learn Guitar Family Forums Play for Us! My August 2021 Daily Challenges "Recital"

  • My August 2021 Daily Challenges "Recital"

Posted by davefive on September 3, 2021 at 7:04 pm

This is my second month of TAC and first month doing challenges. I’ve had a guitar in my house for years, but it’s been mostly a wall ornament. I turned 50 in July and decided it was time to take it seriously.

I “pass off” the daily challenges by recording them when I’m ready and uploading them to an unlisted YT playlist. I made a script that compiles them together for posterity 🙂 … and to remind me in the future of my progress when I’m feeling stuck.

This is my compilation video for the month of August.
    • Favorite Challenge – Abominable Snowman
    • Most Dreaded – Shrunken Head

(the video description in YT has “chapter” links to the start of each challenge so you can skip to your favorite)

Thanks. Not much extra work over simply playing each challenge. I generally listen to the challenge in the morning and play it for about 10 minutes in the morning. Then include it in my evening practice each day until I’m ready. I actually just start the recording and play it over and over until I get a good one (which could take a while :P) then trim the video.

One thing that helps my attitude when recording is to look at the camera and smile (or force a smile) at the beginning of each attempt. Helps me remember to seriously try

You are making great progress if you have only been playing for a few months. Keep on keepin’ on!

Yeah, before that, I’ve played some basic open chords, but never songs and stopped/started some online lessons but always got bored and never really got past the first open chord lessons onto any fun stuff.

Right now starting in July also, I’m trying out some songs using Justin Guitar’s Beginner songbook and Jack Tuttle’s Bluegrass Primer (just finish my first one of those about a week ago), hey, I should post that too 🙂

That takes a lot of discipline, and that practice is already paying off. Great job!

Thanks. Glad you liked it. It’s a good reminder to me too to look at the big picture progress rather than gettin bogged down in a few things that I never did get great.
