  • My first daily challenge

Posted by Mrfredsporty on May 2, 2022 at 6:22 am

Today I started doing the daily challenge. I’m trying to get used to flat pick so this was fun.I’m also doing the the skill courses starting in the “learn the basics” with the goal of completing all of them eventually. AND I’m learning a couple of songs as well as playing a couple I already kind of know with the idea of being an ok “gitar”player. I just turned 78 (yikes) so this is kind of my last chance. Im leaning towards finger picking and doing old Bob Dylan (before he went electric). It is so encouraging here and Tony as well as the group is just a huge positive force. Thank you all!

Fantastic wins all around @Mrfredsporty ! Congrats on starting the daily challenges! That’s a great step to learning foundational skills, such as scales, improv, rhythm, and key chords, chord transitions, etc. I think it’s awesome that you began your guitar journey at 78. It has nothing to do with age. It has everything to do with making a decision to follow a dream and actually doing it (while having fun)! Btw, a pick can be a great friend. Don’t give up on it.

Congratulations, I too like Loraine recommend the flat pick. If like me holding it in the beginning is an issue Try the style that has cork on it. I found it helped me in the beginning. As long as you are having, fun that is all that matters. We are all Tommy Emmanuel in our heads when we jam out……. Have a Grateful day.

You started your DC’s on a very good week of lessons by Tony. I have maintained a “weekly progress tracker” (TAC form download) for over a year now so the current “Prom Nightmare” challenges give me a second shot at them. I can clearly see by my notes a year ago on the form how much easier each DC is now from when I first attempted them. Enjoy your guitar adventure @Mrfredsporty – I am in my 70’s but find playing tunes from the 1970’s (and earlier decades) keep me mentally young!

Very cool.at the new age of 78 I’m liking getting back into it after about 40 yrs or so. Mostly old bob dylan, folk songs and maybe a little Gordon lightfoot. It’s good to see older folks in here. I absolutely LOVE the tac atmosphere and positive reinforcement!
