When Covid sent me out of the office to work at home a couple of years ago, don’t ask my why, but I thought I’d learn to play guitar. I stumbled across Tony’s courses while searching for online lessons. At the time I thought they were too expensive and tried the YouTube route. It didn’t take long for the case to begin gathering dust, then relocated to a back bedroom for several months. Recently I had to get something out and saw the guitar case. I took it out, cleaned it up and began searching online again. Once again, I found Tony’s courses and after listening to him go through it for a couple of days decided if I wanted to actually learn how to play, I needed something with more structure but that also seemed to be fun. I joined.

Right away I started the 30 Days to Play, promising myself to commit to the 10 min a day routine. That’s proven hard to keep because 10 min usually turns into 30, 45 or even 60 min before I know it. So far I’ve got 29 days of continuous practice.

The first couple of weeks I was saying, my fingers don’t do that. Then one day they did. Not perfect but close enough to celebrate. As I’ve moved through the 30 days what was hard at the beginning was easier a couple of days later. Now that I’m winding up the 30 Days, I’m no where near the soloing stage but it’s fun and challenging to try and get there.

I was wrong on my initial thought. TAC isn’t expensive. It gets less so each minute I play and learn something new and different. For the time I’ve spend with the videos and practicing, the money was well spent… and I’m learning to play the guitar.

I’m also wondering what to do next. What skills course would you recommend?

Hi @Kent_B and welcome to TAC! I enjoy reading others How I TAC posts, because it helps me get to know you better. I think many of us found TAC during the COVID isolation period.

As for what to do next … After the 30 day challenge there will be the Next 6 chords. If you haven’t begun the Daily Challenge, that would be my next suggestion. Many will seem above your play level initially, but you’ll begin to find they become easier as you gain in skills and abilities. Also, check out the Skills section. You can take any that interest you. I began with the Jumpstart to Fingerpicking, Flatpicking, and Strumming courses. I also suggest taking the Stretching course.

Good luck, have fun, and let us know how things are going as you move forward.,

SOUNDS GREAT!! You are doing it correctly. Yep, use the 10 minute start up and as warm up and keep on strumming (or picking). Before long you’ll be posting songs that you made up yourself 😉
