  • New guitar demo video: Cort Gold D6

Posted by DavidScoggins on October 4, 2021 at 5:58 am

So after a couple of months of nearly purchasing an affordable dreadnought and trying out models from various manufactures, yesterday I pulled the trigger on a Cort Gold D6. It arrived today and here are the specifications and an over-long demo video.

    Specs:

    Torrefied solid sitka spruce top<div>

    Solid mahogany back and sides

    Mahogany neck

    Ebony fretboard, bridge & pins

    Bone nut and saddle

    43mm nut

    Scalloped X bracing

That’s a whole lot of guitar for US $640.

    Gear:

Shure MV51 mic, iPhone & iMovie

Before I say what I think of it so far, what are your impressions? Positive, negative, meh? Let me know what you think.

Nice tone, very bright & shimmery. Mahogany lends to that note articulation. Happy #NewGuitarDay!

Honestly, David, the guitar is fabulous, but it is you who deserves the credit of playing it so very, very well. You are very talented and hard-working, and I hope you will enjoy a remarkable partnership with this lovely guitar!

Thanks for the responses everyone. My thoughts so far:

    – the neck is very comfortable <div>
<div>- it’s quite bright, although considering the tone woods I think that’s mainly due to the Elixir strings on it, which are too bright for my taste. I’ll wait and see what it sounds like with my preferred strings; D’Addario Nickel Bronze </div><div>
</div><div>- overall I’d describe the sound as ‘full’. There’s a reason why spruce and mahogany are so commonly used for dreadnoughts! </div><div>
</div><div>- it’s much better suited to flat-picking than fingerpicking, as you would expect from a dreadnought, but that’s fine with me as I’m not into finger-picking that much any way </div><div>
</div><div>- picked arpeggiated chords and strumming go really well together on it, for example at 4:55 </div><div>- I think it should serve well as a song-writing instrument and am looking forward to trying out various alternate tunings on it.</div><div>

    Overall, thumbs up. 👍
