Old TAC Forums
Posted by Ron-N on March 27, 2021 at 1:44 pmI find my self going back to the old TAC forums since they are still available. I don’t want to bash the new forums but in 10 minutes I learned I learned about strap size and placement, read an interesting post about arm pain, and high frequency noise when playing an A.
The new forums seem to me like a bowl of jelly. I can’t get a handle on it. I miss the Picker’s Lounge with Gear Question, G.A.S., and Gear Swap. I never posted a lot but I learned a ton of information. Maybe it will come in time…………..

BJ Fogg states in his book “Tiny Habits” that motivation is a crucial factor when it comes to making changes. The old forum motivated me to reflect on a lot of guitar related questions. For example:
– just one guitar or more guitars?
– Which size? Which brand? Which sound?
– storage in case or hanging on the wall?
– where are public places ( with few bypassers) to play outside?
(inspired by the Mark Lindemann TRUMPET video)
– what about humidity?
Some answers lead to small changes, which added up and multiplied to big changes. One answer even enabled me to install a rock solid 7-day-a-week guitar practice. The old forum offered me many prompts ( as BJ Fogg would call them) to improve as a guitar player. I guess you and others made similar experiences.
I believe there are other, additional ways to improve as a guitar player than daily pratice and skill courses – allthough these are the most essential for sure. I am gratefull that the old tac forum offered me so much inspiration, prompts and motivation for my guitar journey till now – and hope that tac will expand it´s focus a little bit in that direction again in the future.
But last not least: the new look/optic is great and modern and I really appreciate it. If a new “leaner” forum allowing all kinds of guitar questions would have been included, where topics would be deleted automatically after 30 days – quite simular to the daily challanges at the end of a month now – it would have been perfect for me.

So many TAC members with deft skill in articulating detail. Maybe, just maybe, somebody in “Bozeman Control” is reading and digesting all this.
Today I had two questions that I know (nae, am certain) that they would have been answered by COP on the Pacific Coast.
The first was about Guitar Pro 7: why are some Chords an opaque-grey while others are bold-black ?
The second was about Chords: their formation and naming-convention.
I know, I know, not valid in here; but as Rhett Butler apparently did not say , “Frankly , my dear, I don’t give …….” 🙂

I agree @Ron N. I’m finding I have to wade through tons of messages to get to the messages I’m interested in. With the site pages loading very slowly (like 1990s DSL speeds), it’s mildly irritating.
