Tony’s Acoustic Challenge – The New Way to Learn Guitar Family Forums Small Wins on a serious note…..How tac expands senior lives

As you know, I have some sort of great saying, witticism or fantastic insight daily (at least in my own mind). But today I want to tell of the great contribution that tac is making in my life and perhaps other folks of my age or around there. Im 78 and have no family and therefore am alone a lot. Im not lonely just that I spend a great deal of time by myself. This is something that happens to many seniors and for many it marks a slow withdrawal from society and life. What i’m hoping and feeling is that tac helps combat that shrinking from society. Im finding that for me tac has provided a place to open up freely and learn as well as expanding my involvement in life. Im meeting people directly through tac and the forums. Im meeting folks indirectly from tac by going out to music stores, exploring musical things and making myself be a little more of the community. so, even though I dont feel alone or depressed there may be many in the community who do feel that isolation creeping in. I find that tac is a great resource and I plan to continue til ….. well for as long as I can. Thank you folks for understanding and accepting me an my longwinded awkward expressions.

Thanks for sharing those thoughts, Mrfredsporty. I’m so glad you’ve found this great way to connect to other geeks and to the community. It’s becoming a great resource for me, too. I spend a fair bit of time alone myself, by choice, though like you I don’t feel lonely. During the times when I’m struggling with my playing, it helps immensely to read about how others are doing and feeling about their journeys 😄

    Fred–

You have made a(nother) fantastic post.

You’ve reminded me/(us?) that there is more to TAC than learning guitar. That there is JOY in the learning and fellowship in here!!!

For me, anyway, it’s kind-of easy to fall into a “work-work-work” mentality and overlook the part you have brought forth. I’ve been trying to lighten-up a bit with all that lately– adding-in parts of my practice sessions deliberately where I’m playing more “loose”, with more creativity and spontaneity……… more FUN….. (edit/add-in)– even though “it ain’t always pretty”😜!!!

Also think it’s great to keep our brain moving– with memorization, eye-hand coordination, muscle-memory, concentration, and also posture and just keeping flexibility in our hands & arms– this is good stuff.

Repeat– you (and also Gerry)- have made a(nother) fantastic post!

PS– I really LOVE your first line🤣😎

Thanks for sharing how TAC and the TAC community is positively impacting your life – both within and outside the forums @Mrfredsporty . What I really appreciate about what you shared is that this experience is also encouraging your contacts and exposure in “real life”. That’s awesome.

Like you and @GerryB56 , I look forward every day to logging in to see what everyone is up to and to learn from Tony – and learn just as much from the TAC community! 😃

You have mentioned several great wins through TAC @Mrfredsporty. I’m only 63 but have some memory problems already.😕 TAC is helping with learning something new everyday. Music is great for the brain. My memory issues are starting to be a little bit of a problem with the lessons, but I just keep moving forward anyways. The TAC community is a blessing since I’ve been isolated for a while. I live alone and unfortunately I get lonely. I really appreciate how helpful the TAC Family is.

the good thing for you and i , Stevieblues, is that we can hide our own easter eggs! The other thing that helps me a lot is that I am a big exerciser not a distance runner but a resistance exerciser using weights and machines. I go to a 24hr gym at all sorts of weird hours but I do it at least 3 times a week. It does help the brain in that it pumps more blood throughout the body. The greatest fear I have is losing independence. The thing that is a silent killer for all us “mature” folks is sarcopenia ( the wasting away of muscle mass). The only way to slow it down is through exercise. wow, I sure can run my mouth. Thanks for listening and take care of your great self.

I appreciate your reply Mrfredsporty. You’re right about the exercise, it’s definitely good for the brain. I’m glad you go to the gym 3 times a week, keep it up! I’m running late today so catch you later.

Thank you for sharing Fred. It is so wonderful to find connection and community in different places. I’m really new to TAC but have already benefited from the forum and have seen how engaged you are with the community.

@Mrfredsporty , Glad to hear that you find the group helpful. Sometimes I get very frustrated with some of the lessons and I have to take a break (just took this week off). But, I always log on to open up the forum and see if I can help someone or they help me. Oh…. and by the way I always play my guitar everyday. Right now, I stepped into the ‘songvault’ and found some really great songs to learn 🙂
