Power chord stretch?
Posted by AlteredGoods on January 13, 2023 at 9:07 amI just got to the power chord lesson and to do pointer on 5 and and ring and pinky on 7 is super hard for me. Any tips on stretches i can do outside of guitar time to help get my hand to move that way?

Before looking for streches it might be useful to think about what’s tight and why.
Is your shoulder tight or relaxed?
Is your forearm tight or relaxed?
How much bend is at your wrist?
How close is your palm to the neck?
How curled are your fingers?
For this position is your index finger tight to your pointer finger or loose?
Are you learning over the guitar to look at the strings?
I have a lot of trouble with all of these.. so I’m super conscious of body mechanics and form.
One thing I’m learning is that “relaxed” is key and when I tense up other muscles than just those needed to make the cord shape I’m making it harder.

Check out the Skills Courses for the daily finger stretch module. That should help.

Hi, I’m having the same issues and can’t reach with my fingers.
You mentioned to look in the skill courses daily finger stretch but I don’t see it.
Help will greatly appreciated.

It’s listed with the “Getting Started” skills courses third item from the top.

@AlteredGoods , My advice is to favorite the daily challenges that have those near impossible pinkie stretches in them. As you keep practicing them, it will get easier. Once you have them on your favorite list you’ll be able to go back to them as many times as you want.

So glad to know I’m not the only one struggling with this stretch. Sooo hard to get these notes clean. Of course, I am just beginning!
