Greetings, I have recently rejoined TAC. Strange though, I can’t use my old email or nickname and can’t edit my old profile?

Anyway, I had left TAC due to being a bit frustrated not being able to get through the daily challenges the way I wanted to, and felt like I was too much of a beginner to get the usefulness out of the program. I’ve improved the past year through the help of a great teacher who like Tony stresses the importance of having fun instead of doing it right all the time. My progress has greatly improved since taking on this attitude.

So why rejoin TAC if I have a great teacher? With my teacher, we only get to meet once a week, and spend time working on our agenda. I’ve found myself falling back into playing the songs I was comfortable with, and still learning other songs. Also, as I get better, I find there are other styles and songs I want to learn, but I can’t learn these skills a half hour a week. I’ve been missing the benefits of this program, and getting pushed outside of your comfort zone.

I’ve done this weeks challenges, and have been having a real fun time, as they are a bit easier now, and I’ve done a better job not putting so much pressure on myself. I started at age 59, and feel like I won’t have enough life left to reach my musical goals. The more fun I have however, that goal seems less important.

Also, the more I have learned and been exposed to different programs, what Tony offers is quite incredible for the price. Funny, I’ve seen a couple of other online programs now doing “challenges”

Welcome back. You may find Tony is tying the 5 skills into songs more now than in the past and the quarterly workshops have been incorporated into the daily challenges rather than a stand alone session. Fretboard Wizard has been reworked and is a real jewel. Happy to have you back and a part of the guitar geek community.

Welcome back @Skyman ! Great time to rejoin, as pointed out by @albert_d . There are a lot of new lessons, and the format has changed since you were here. The days of the week and their focus whether on Technique, Licks, Scales & Improv, Rhythm, or Chord Progressions, the way they’re presented has been updated with new videos and more modern music, rather than mostly bluegrass. It’s a lot of fun.

I also agree that Fretboard Wizard is worth taking. Once you buy it, you own it for life, and you’ll return to it to refresh your knowledge and skills.

I totally understand about being overwhelmed and feeling like you were drowning initially, and I think supplementing your in person teacher with TAC is a great move. I had absolutely no experience with guitar when I found. TAC. TAC taught me what I needed to get started. I decided to get a private teacher about a year in. It was the smartest thing I could have done. He has not been threatened whatsoever with my using both him and TAC. He actually encourages it, and asks questions about what I’m working on. He’s actually taught me to put everything together and play songs. I agree, having a daily lesson really adds to the 1/2 hour lessons (which go by so quickly).

Don’t be a stranger in the forums, and keep on plunking!l

Thanks @Loraine. I’ll be active in the forums. Someday I may actually have the guts to post a video of me playing. So envious of the people like you who put yourself out there for all to see.

Kyle, I decided early on that I was going to post the good and the bad. I figured it would help me grow, and it really has. I’m still not a great player, but I think I’m further along than I would have been with not taking risks and posting videos. The guitar has not come easily to me. I’m pretty much resigned to never being great at it, but my goal is more to just have fun and be able to play a few songs for family and friends. Also, this is such a supportive site that I don’t feel threatened by doing so. AND, I probably won’t be meeting most people, so how can I be threatened by what anyone thinks of me if I don’t know them. The only person’s opinion that I seek out is my guitar teacher, and even then I don’t see eye to eye with him on all things. Initially , he couldn’t believe I posted videos or performed at virtual open mics without perfecting a song first. I continually reminded him that it didn’t matter, as long as I was having fun and that I was getting better simply by posting videos and playing in open mics. He’s now a believer in what I do, and he tells me continuously to keep up with what I’m doing, because things seem to have clicked, and I’ve been making great progress. So, long explanation to get to my words of encouragement. Continue to have fun and move forward. Sorry for long post. Just keep on plunking! And, have fun.

My young cousin always calls me “Cousin Cool Kid,” and I got such a good feeling reading your response. Thank you.

        Hey @Loraine ;

        I’m gonna have to +1 @the-old-coach Mark’s comment.

I know you have struggled. I know you have some real challenges that most of us don’t. I know that many of us, me for sure, would have given up if I faced the challenges you do. You are such an inspiration for us.

Thank you for your “long” post, Loraine. I don’t think it was that long; I think it was just enough to let us know what we need to do. “Just keep having fun and moving forward”.

Thanks for your support @N-lightMike . If it weren’t for TAC, i wouldn’t have made it through all of life’s challenges the past 3 years, not the other way around. I didn’t quit because I saw this for what it was – a stress reliever and something for me, and not for my mom or other people who. it was literally a lifesaver for me. I needed something for me alone, and this was it. I’m very grateful for that.

        Loraine—

You have SUCH a handle and perspective on all of this…. and always have. And I/we notice! ALWAYS an encouraging word and great advice.

And I have said this before- you will always have a place in my heart- because you were the FIRST one to welcome me into TAC when I joined, almost three years ago. And also, that we have travelled the same path with our parents.

I have not forgotten that, and won’t ever.

Keep doin’ what you do, miss……… we appreciate it.

I just rejoined after a year off. I am very encouraged by the comments I read below. Part of the reason why I left was that I felt that the daily lessons did not amount to a tangible accomplishment. From what I am reading here and what I saw in this weeks program, the lessons built on each other with a “playable” result.

I came back because I let things go and after 6 months of trying other websites. and hardly picked up the guitar at all. TAC really did get me playing every day and I am hopeful that the new improvements that Loraine described (more song oriented lessons) will make it even better.

    Skyman

When I rejoined after a year off they let me use my old email so it is as if I never left. You may be able to get that squared away with their support.

Thanks Brian. I’ll try and contact support. Glad you rejoined. I like the little skills I learn from TAC that I may not normally do. For example, I just started trying to learn “Wish you Were Here” by Pink Floyd. Some of the slides we did this week in the daily challenges, directly correlates to some of the slides in that song. I couldn’t see this value when I fist joined.
