  • Sanded a saddle

In this case, it was on a dulcimer I picked up so my niece’s little ones can play along on key the next time they invade the music room at my dad’s place when I am there.

I learned that it isn’t all that scary. A little at a time, and bring the top and bottom strings up to tension and test, rinse repeat until the saddle is where you want it.

I would be comfortable adjusting my ukes the next time I restring, and might still hesitate with my guitars if they even needed it, but I could get the job done.

On a side note, I also learned that snorting bone dust ins really unpleasant, wear a dust mask, or don’t inhale!

That’s really great @Alfred. It’s really not that hard to do most of the work on guitars or other stringed instruments. It really helps us feel like “real” guitar players to be able to do it. I bought a piece of junk guitar for $20 bucks shortly after joining TAC and did a bunch of work. Once you get past the fear, you can take care of your own instruments to a large degree.

And yeah, any kind of dust is more damaging than we might think. A dust mask obviously can’t stop a virus, but at least all this silliness has made us more aware of using masks when they do actually work.

    MG 😀
