    Hi all,

After doing the ’30 Days to Play’, I hit a snag in the form of goal setting. I had lost some of my motivation and clarity in the midst of family routines and home projects.

One of my main goals with TAC is to make progress towards being able to play several songs all the way through…I have never been able to do that. Like a lot of folks, I can manage a few riffs but not much else. So I have these songs that I really want to learn only to discover that they have a chord that is out of reach or something else in the way. This is typically discouraging and leaves me feeling kind of rudderless

Well – on a whim – I created a spreadsheet to keep track of all of the songs I think I might want to learn along with the required chords and hyperlinks to online tabs websites. So now I can quickly compare song-to-song and see what is more realistic and what to hold onto until later. It is definitely a work-in-progress, but it is helpful and I already feel less overwhelmed. Just thought to share a screenshot of it (see attached). Let me know if you have any suggestions for how I can make it better.

I’m always blown away when folks totally get into doing paperwork to support their guitar learning. Impressive.

Impressive. That is a great way to keep organized. You have a nice collection of songs. The only thing I would maybe do is add a “tuning” column if any of them are in alternate tunings.

Thanks for the ‘tuning’ idea. It would be useful to be able to see those at once if any share a common alternate tuning.

Wow! If I tried to do that I would end up spending hours lost in the spreadsheet and miss time playing. But if that works for you, it’s a great idea.

Okay Wes… you’re an engineer, aren’t you? Just admit it. 😉

Oh man, I actually do teach pre-engineering!

My spreadsheet is effectively what engineers would call a ‘decision matrix’…and I didn’t even realize it. Good stuff. 🤓
