  • SNL VOM cover of John Prine's "Paradise"

Posted by AttyTJ on October 17, 2021 at 9:44 am

Last night, the Saturday Night Live VOM (snlvom.blogspot.com) was themed “John Prine.”

I knew this song from John Denver and the Everly Brothers and others, and I was not aware this song, which I first learned the chords for in the early 70’s, was a John Prine song until Stirgill Simpson released it this year as an advance single for the upcoming “Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows” album. It became a well covered and oft presented protest song in environmental causes from the 70’s to the present, and luckily for me, no one else last nigh had played it.

I didn’t know this was a John Prine song either. I only recently became aware of it through the Johnny Cash version

Great music gets done over and over. John Denver, John Cash, John Prine. I think I see a commonality.
