Starting Point
Posted by Paul E on September 24, 2026 at 10:30 amI have completed the 30 Day Challenge and I was fine with it. I then moved on to the daily Challenges, and have been overwhelmed by Tony’s instructions. I am spending more time then I can afford, learning each day’s lesson. I think I started on the wrong level of challenges. I perhaps need some guidance into where I should start or what I should do. Looking for some help. Thanks

There is only one level of challenges. The challenges repeat on a yearly basis. Should start on a Monday and work through the challenges til Friday. Do what you can for the time you want to spend. You are not being graded….well maybe by yourself. If you like the weeks challenges, save them (Click on the heart). Then you can go back to them if you want to spend more time on them.

Welcome @PaulE , try hitting the 5 day Routine challenge. It is the template for squeezing the most possible out of the time you have for any given lesson. Method, tricks and tips of how to use the “Daily Challenge” even when it looks at first glance overwhelming.

I hear ya Paule. Having a similar experience, where I’m not a straight up beginner but going through the skill courses seems to be helping. However, I’m feeling like I should be doing the daily challenges now but today with the walking baseline had me thinking that I’m forgetting some of the earlier stuff too that was preparing me for the daily challenges. I’m using the favorites, but then find myself wanting to do better at what was already shown (the stuff that Tony talks about). Trying to trust the process and I am seeing progress. I may not be on here daily, but I am picking up the guitar daily. I guess I’m saying try not rush it, that’s what I’m telling myself.

There’s no “preparing for the daily challenges”. Each week is a self contained lesson, to some degree even the daily lesson stands alone. Some weeks are harder than others, so depending on when you join, you might find things more difficult as a beginner. You just do what you can and mark complete. After time you will be able to do more and more. Topics repeat and actual lessons repeat. It works well if you stick with it regularly for a couple of years. I’m not doing the daily lessons regularly any more, but I did them faithfully for 2 years. I learned a lot, but now I’m focusing on other stuff. TAC gave me a great foundation, and I still pull up lessons all the time.

I wasn’t a newbie when I started this program but I definitely picked up a lot of techniques by going through mostly all of the Skill section lessons. That is what Saturday and Sundays are for. I don’t have other social obligations so can spend time trying to continue to improve my guitar picking. I’ve continued to revisit them and still pick up stuff from those nuggets.

You are definitely not along Paul. That is a sentiment that many express. A few things.
Look through the Skills lessons and choose something that interests you. It’s a great break from the daily’s and the frustration.
The main thing about the Daily’s is that they are called “Challenges,” and they are not meant to be easy. If you aren’t challenged, you can’t improve and get better. Too many want easy, but the guitar isn’t necessarily an easy instrument to learn, but with dedication it’s possible. Too many people quit playing before the magic happens. Yes, it is harder at the beginning, because nothing is familiar, you haven’t built up muscle memory and skills, but I guarantee down the road it does get easier.
Also, you are not expected to be perfect. In fact, just the opposite. TAC teaches progress over perfection, and learning the guitar is a journey, not a sprint. Do the best you can each day, even if you are frustrated. Give it a minimum of 10 minutes per day, mark the lesson complete. You can still practice it, but don’t try to perfect it. Simply move on the next day. Lessons repeat every 8-9 months (for a reason). There is he Benchmark Progress every 3 months. You reflect back on what you’ve done, develop your goals for the next 3 months, and the cycle moves on. What you will begin to notice when those lessons and benchmark songs come back around is the progress you’ve actually made. It’s a great system.
If you find something you really enjoy and like, keep it on the shelf to pull it down when you’re feeling frustrated. Keep posting your progress and challenges to share so that others can see they’re not alone.
The most important thing is to be kind to yourself and have fun.
