Hey @duane58, I’ll give tons of #smallwins when it comes to practice and accountability and effort! As a note, you don’t need fingernails to play the fingerpicking lessons. You can just use the tips or pads of your fingers to pick. If you can get used to finger picks, I’ll give you bonus points. I’ve never been able to master them. Great job on your wins!

I have tried those finger picks for you fingers and i got no where with them. I do see a lot of guitars have fake nails on their picking hand. You could try them out and see what you think?

you know @Duane58 , I first want to thank for the question I just googled and got a lot of guitar player finger nails. I also found a video by James Taylor on how he puts on his own acrylic nails. You know….. I think I have some glue on fake nails…. I’ll look around for them, glue them on and give you my results.

I was just watching some youtubes. Actually a lot of guys that are finger style guitar players do this. I had just broke a finger nail last month and dang it, it was hard to pick those strings, never thought about putting a fake nail on. Now, my nails are the same length so they are fine for the moment. But, it will happen again. 🙂

Nice, thank you for that feedback, do you remember what brand of fake nails you bought?

@Duane58 I have had the Acrylic nails put on at a salon. You don’t have to do both hands, just the fingers you want. So the cost would be cheaper. The only draw back from Acrylic nails is your nails are weaker when the Acrylic comes off. They will strengthen up again, but when it comes off the nails will be flimsy. You also will have to go for maintenance every so often. You aren’t going to want real long nails, just long enough to clear your finger. I would wait till you break one. That would be the time to test it. Google fingernails for guitarist there is plenty of information out there.

Thank you, I have looked at google a bit and wanted to temper that with someone’s experience.
