Success with the Call And Response lick
Wow, zowie, yikes. The “Call And Response” lick is so cool. I love this little lick. Why do I always like the hardest ones the best? Anyway, after almost 3 years with TAC, and focusing on finger picking the whole time, I can sorta, kinda play this lick. If I practice regularly for a week, maybe two, I’ll be able to play this in a song. So, that’s my goal.
I have done exercises on the guitar that strengthen my fingers and increase my finger independence. Most of those exercises are things I picked up from Tony’s lessons. I could never have done this lick before. But right away, I was able to do the pull off and hammer on in the first little flurry. That was surprising, but then I was able to do it at speed after a very short time.
The rest of it seemed like it was too much for me, but as usual, I gave it a try. More surprise, I was able to get the first 3 sequences down in the same fashion, without to much time or trouble and actually being able to do them in time.
Of course, when I tried to do that last stretch with the pinky, I realized I wasn’t going to be able to do the whole lick. But I tried harder, switched guitars, and lo and behold, I got that part also.
I am blown away by how much I’ve improved during my time here at TAC. Getting this lick down this well and this quickly really demonstrates my improvement so that even I can see it. Thank you Tony and thank you to all the community for the constant and wonderful support and encouragement.
