  • TAC format – how often does the program repeat?

Posted by LeslyT on June 3, 2026 at 7:18 am

I’ve been in for 6 months now and I’m actually playing guitar which is quite exciting as I have picked up and put down the guitar multiple times over the years. I think the program repeats every 6 months? I feel like I am now seeing stuff I saw before, but this time around everything feels easier so I see the value in repeating but I am also hoping for new material to be subbed in here and there.

Do we get new songs interspersed in or will it be the same on repeat?

The challenges repeat every year. there are four benchmark songs that repeat every 4 months. This weeks Wagon Wheel is one of those benchmarks. The other Benchmark Songs are Aint no Sunshine, Old Man, and Hotel California.

@LeslyT there haven’t been any changes in the rotation for quite a while although it seems Tony may have updated videos here and there over the years, at least I think he has.

He has to tweak things every few years (probably 4 because of the extra day – 52 weeks = 364 days) so that the schedule still runs according to season for those seasonally themed weekly challenges. In 20255 the 5 Day Vibrato Challenge was moved from the end of May to end of April likely so that Mothers Day Week could arrive on time.

Hmmm. I am enjoying seeing my improvement but not sure if I’d want to stick around for several years. I can see 2 years here for sure.

Lot’s of us have been here for several years, but we had the lifetime membership option which isn’t offered anymore.

I feel absolutely super lucky to have the lifetime membership. Life happens and trying to maintain a daily visit with my guitar is tricky…so I save everything I can, print out the tab sheets for every day (to keep on hand for reference) and dabble with playing when a window opens up. To be able to reflect back into Tony’s program and revisit videos is a blessing…..because not practicing every day tends to make me lose finger memory. However—since I have the lifetime membership….that “pressure” of needing to do the daily is relieved knowing I can go back in time or jump forward to whatever I feel, because of the lifetime membership. I love TAC and the methodology behind its purpose to expose many facets to guitar playing, song structure and understanding how to PLAY the guitar. Thank you Tony and all the gang for your wonderful tips, tricks and motivation to keep playing no matter how often.

I’d like to know if there is any new content/updates being done to the site as I least want some new content as I continue my journey. I can understand repeating the benchmarks but other content should be refreshed and updated to hold interest and teach us in different ways. I haven’t been here long enough to see repeats but do any of the old timers know if Tony ever updates any of the content or replaces older weekly challenges with new ones? We are paying weekly and I don’t have a lifetime membership so I’d expect some kind of ongoing improvement…
Really like the content so far and it is helping me to make progress from when I started for sure.

I don’t think there has been much in the way of fresh content in the past 5 years. Before then the site received a complete overhaul. Some of the members that have been here a lot longer than I might be able to give you more accurate info. @Loraine , @albert_d , @Guitargeezer and @Philb are a few names I can think of who’ve been here 5 -10 years.

I didn’t mention @jumpinjeff who has been here 11 years now.

Hi Pete, I am a little cranky this morning so my reply reflects that but there is a grain of truth burried in the sarcasm: I don’t need any new content until they come out with the new notes in the scale. : )

And personally I don’t mind the repeats at all, there’s plenty of sites and youtubers who teach individual songs. They don’t give you what TAC brings, but I’ve had fun with those songs outside of TAC and I continue to play them. Lauren Bateman does an awesome job teaching songs that are freely available, then there’s a handful of others that I follow.

I agree … I like the lessons but would love to see a few new ones brought into the rotation.

I was in TAC for three years- (now out– at least for now).

I’m a “saver”; and printed-out every single Daily Challenge for an entire year; kept them organized by the month (and wrote the date at the top of the page); in a big 3-ring binder– labeled for the year. (example– “TAC Daily Challenges– 2022”). When the “second-year” rolled around- (my anniversary was in Jan.)– I simply started another binder. Did it for 2 years!

But—– there was a difference—— In the “second year”– before I printed the “new ones”– I went back and checked in the “first” book– to see if I already had it- (no sense in printing it again- just to be printing it). Sometimes I would find it, but it would maybe be a month or two prior or after; and sometimes, there would be an entire week of new lessons. The second book was much thinner– but there WAS some new stuff not from the first year.

So in my recollection of it all— (to respond to the original question)— this is what I remember….. they “generally” repeated somewhere around every year…. give or take; with some new ones “added-in” (and/or moved- (or removed)- every now and then; maybe just “moved-around a little”.

I dunno if this answers any questions or not— but this is what I remember- (and have the binders to prove it).

Even though I am no longer in TAC– at least right now– I still thumb thru those binders… I love to just open them up to some totally random page, and play that Challenge as a part of my practice(s). And– it keeps me thinking I want to join back in!)

Lack of new content is my biggest gripe here. There hasn’t been any new content added for a couple of years. It seems like this program is on autopilot. Tony used to be somewhat involved, and I don’t see that anymore. Especially since the Acoustic Tuesday ended. This is the only thing making me think about not renewing. So much good content here, but I can only do Wagon Wheel so many times. I also feel a bit ripped off when the daily challenges for the week are just the 5 day challenges from the beginner course. Seems like those are just fillers when there isn’t anything new. Still the best online course though.

I understand your frustration @Skyman911 for a while I felt abandonment too. Then I realized 2 things:

      1. Like you said, its “Still the best online course though”
      2. Tony isn’t just laying back and getting enriched by TAC, he is an accomplished artist. You can look him up. I don’t know what projects he’s involved in right now but I’m sure he’s keeping busy. And he’s raising kids which is the most important job in the world. TAC is running fine without his daily involvement.

And he will step in occasionally in the forum like he did earlier this year. The site is still slow, but I don’t let it get me down. I just do stuff while pages are loading.

I saw a lot of positive and.. negative comments.

    My .02 cents is

Fridays lesson was Berry Be Goode.

i did this lesson in the keys of A, 1st position capo’d 1 fret so i was playing in Bb, also in the keys of G/capo’d 1 fret, E/ capo’d 1 fret . C/capo’d 2 frets so it was in the key of D. Then I moved Tony’s lesson down and began it on the 5th String/E flat and the 4th string./A flat.

When I was a child I could take a rock, my mother’s hair brush, a kitchen spoon and a piece of string and make up all kinds of games to amuse myself. No TV or smart phone around to distract me from learning and using my imagination.

Now with these lessons I do this same thing with “grown up” guitar games.

You can take any of these daily lesson and stretch your mind and fingers into new directions so that the lessons are always new and varied. Just up to you to actually do it.
