  • When to start Fretboard?

Posted by gregoran on January 29, 2023 at 9:47 am

I just joined and I am doing the 30 Challenge…I did buy the Fretboard, but wondering whether to start during the 30 day Challenge or to wait till I finish that part. Thanks!

Hi @gregoran and welcome to TAC! The answer is, it depends – lol. If you have little guitar background and playing skills, then I would focus on the 30 days to play first. Fretboard Wizard has a lot of musical theory and some material thepat you want to really focus on. If you already have some skills and general knowledge, then I would say you could try to take them simultaneously. There’s no rush to get through either, so do what will work for you the best.

You did the wise thing by adding the FBWizard. If you have time in your day I’d say do them both as they will reinforce each other. If not then I’d say the challenge during the week and the FBW on the weekends.

Thanks Albert! As I ponder this I know that it is easier for me to know something when i have a web of information, i e different ways of seeing something…so for me knowing a little theory or why i am doing something helps me remember how to do it. So I think FBW might help..

Hi @gregoran and welcome to TAC. As @Loraine said, it’s about what works best for you – this is your journey and you choose the path. After viewing your profile, IMHO, your previous experience with guitar is limited, so I would suggest that you stick with the 30 Days to Play and see the course through before moving on to something else. Give yourself time to get used to playing again, then do the FW course. This is just MHO, you can do whatever you feel like doing.

Best of luck with your journey here at TAC Greg, and remember to enjoy the journey.

Hi @gregoran and welcome to TAC. My advice would be to do both if you have the time and capacity to really absorb it all, play guitar and have fun. When I started with TAC I did them simultaneously and the found I needed to slow down on FW a bit to make sure I was understanding the content correctly and also applying it to my playing. Again welcome and happy playing!
