Whiskey Before Breakfast arr. by Jack Tuttle
Posted by davefive on October 23, 2021 at 1:17 pmMy second song from Jack Tuttle’s Bluegrass Guitar Primer.
First tried to play this at the beginning of August. My second and hardest flatpicking song to date. I thought I could learn it well enough to record in a month. It’s been three.
I’m playing at half-speed and didn’t repeat the A and B sections (my endurance isn’t that good yet). A lot of fun learning it though. On to the next one 🙂

Very nice timing and super crisp notes. Well played Dave, keep up the good work!

Thanks! I’m learning how much mental strength is needed to learn an instrument.

Thanks! I’ve got a metronome/click-track in my ear – haha. I’m almost keeping pace 🙂

Thanks! AJ Lee/Blue Summit just announced a show near me in Jan so I’ll get to see 2 of the old Tuttles gang with AJ and Sullivan 🙂

So did you? [have a whiskey before breakfast… or after recording]
I relate to thinking I’ll learn something in a month and it taking three but it is the journey not the destination, right? Well… kind of… I would like to get there eventually. (Daddy are we there yet? Syndrome)

No, but I probably still had whiskey in my system when I recorded this 🙂

Thanks!!! Loving the feedback on this. My next one is strumming/vocals so I’m pretty sure I’ll be just as nervous when I release that one 🙂

Very cool. Great alternate picking and clarity of notes and as Angela Petrilli says in her vids, you can’t play anything fast until you can play it slow. I’ve not heard of the Bluegrass guitar primer before – must look it up. Might help me with my 90 Day Progress challenge to post a flat picked tune each month.

Thanks, October was a mess practice-wise, but I’m back now, more focused and organized. Hopefully I’ll put something else up later this month.
