  • Why I love the local mom and pop

Don’t really need help, but this is kind of community support for the guitar community at large, I suppose. Just not sure where to share this actually.

So today was going to be my new Uke day. I had been waiting for my local guitar store to get in a solid cedar top and lam willow Ohana. It was glossy and pretty. I tried it out and immediately hated the glossy neck. When I mentioned that I wasn’t a fan of the glossy neck he said that he had planned for that, and pulled out another uke.

I ended up leaving with a Teton with a solid cedar top, and lam willow back and sides. All natural satin finish which I have been happily playing for the past hour. All I need is a new set of low G strings, and it will be the perfect fit for me!

This is why we need our local music shops that call you by name, and know your musical needs and tastes almost better than you. So yay for me new Uke!

Buy from your mom and pop if you can! they need the business more than ever right now.

Agreed, if you are lucky enough to live in an area with decent music shops. Unfortunately for many areas, that is no longer the case.

Have a blast with your new Uke! Maybe you can post some pics. (I’d ask to hear it, but that would be wrong of me since I have never recorded and posted a thing on TAC.)😁

I will post something on it eventually.
      I am working on

      Uncle Johns Band
      Jolene

On the uke. But alas today is not actually Uke day. (tomorrow is though :D)

We are very lucky that we have a music store near us – Russo Music – only 2 locations, local, great staff and reasonably decent selection of instruments. Music Villa is a great store too – not local but my store of choice. Most of my guitars have either come from MV or Russo. You are so right Alfred – the advantage of having a favored store is that they do get to know you and you can trust them to pick out the right stuff for you.
